Must Be Doing Something Wrong

Post by John S »

As a veteran gamer, I am embarrassed to say that I do not see how to get Ligny & Quatre Bras going.

I installed them both. Oddly though, the promised shortcut never made its appearance for either of them. Registered both.

Within the Scourge of War Waterloo file, there are DLC files for both Ligny and QB.

These DLC files do not seem to contain any Exe file.

Within the overall Waterloo file, there is both an Autorun.exe and an SOWWL.exe file.

When I use either of these exe files to open the program and go into the Single Player file I find only "Waterloo Battles. Nothing which would seem trigger QB or Ligny.

Using Windows 10. What am I missing here???

Start the game. When it comes up, click on say, single player. Click on Waterloo battles. They show up.

Thank you so much for the screenshot because it confirms to me that something is very wrong.

When I do that which you indicate I get only the Waterloo French and Waterloo Allied tabs. I do not get the QB or Ligny tabs despite the fact that the file shows these files as DLC files.

Again though, one oddity is that when installing the program (I did it once again a few seconds ago) the installation asked me if I wanted to add a shortcut, I said Yes, the install completed and said I'd find a Shortcut on my desktop, No shortcut appears. seems like this may have significance.

That's weird. I don't know if it matters, but I have them all on Steam. And the only shortcut I have is for SOW: Waterloo. (I bought them here, then added them to Steam.)

Have you updated Scourge of War: Waterloo with the last update?
You have to install it before installing the expansions.

You can download it from the link below:

Thanks for the tip re installing the update but it did not help. Installed the update then opened the exe file and no Ligny or QB, then once again reinstalled Ligny and still no access to it (even though the DLC is in the Scourge of War Waterloo file.

I think the problem rests in the failure to update either of the two exe files that are contained in the Scourge of War Waterloo file. These are "autorun.exe" which shows a10/5/2016 date and the "SOWWL.exe" file which shows a 6/13/2016 date. (I purchased Ligny and QB on 12/8/16).

For some reason, probably related, no shortcut icon whatsoever is being created even though I designated it for both the Waterloo update and for the Ligny installation.

The Ligny installation has an oddity. At one point it says that "Shortcut icons will be created in the file indicated below" and then below it says "Scourge of War Ligny". I have not found a file by that name anywhere - the only file I have is Scourge of War Waterloo which has within it the DLC file for Ligny and QB. I tried installing Ligny and then telling it to put the Shortcut icon into "Scourge of War Waterloo" but nothing was added and nothing changed and, once again, when the install screen said there would be a shortcut on the desktop it never appeared.

I have rebooted a couple of times to try to be sure that this did not somehow fix it, no dice. Again - this is Windows 10.

Maybe this will help?

The only shortcut I have is for Waterloo. The DLCs are not stand alone games, so you have to play them through the base game.

On some lower resolutions you might not see displayed the expansions tabs.
You'll see instead two tiny scroll arrows next to the Waterloo Allied tab.

Wow, might want to make those arrows a bit larger [;)]

I would never notice them.

VPAULUS --- Wow. Just amazing. After all this time and effort (how many reinstallations, six or seven???) you are absolutely correct. Small arrows. Never noticed them. Never would have noticed them if you had not suggested it. everything is fine.

Also though - still seems odd that the "Shortcut Icons" never showed anywhere.

Most of the expansions for our games, don't have a desktop shortcut icon.
Anyway, those arrows are really too tiny. [X(]
