By the time I get to Soerabaja I'll be spotted. He has some search, some I-boats (possibly with Glens) and has been reconning the base for several turns, most likely from Balikpapan. It's well within Dinah range.

If I get there intact he'll have to make some choices. How to defend all of Borneo oil centres as well as Palembang, and possibly defend he move of Allied CVs into the South China Sea which would get right into the guts of Japanese ship and troop movements I'm sure.

It'll be an interesting few turns. [;)]

It's only possible because he decided to stay a week at Pearl and knock out two more BBs after the day 1 attacks. I'm not sure I'm getting value yet for those old ladies sitting in the mud at PH yet, but maybe if the forces come together in the DEI before I lose all of my fighter cover something more interesting can happen. Replacement rates are nearly non-existent for fighters and SDBs right now and zeros still rule the roost with their expert jocks.

Up North Sara will retire in to the shadows soon and wait for some assistance. I've got Yorktown coming to SD in a few days and she'll move to join up, so that if he decides to reinforce and fight in the North at least they'll be some hope of resistance. Or, if opportunity arises, maybe head South to join up with the other two somehow. [;)]

All Marine planes are on CVs except the SBD-1 group. [:)]

The Vindicators are active too, so extra firepower hopefully to make up for the Devastators. They are being used for ASW primarily, with some low naval bombing.

Fingers crossed I can make use of it all and get something back for the extended pounding at PH.

B-17Es hit the port at Balikpapan again, but only drop 4 x 500lb bombs each and get two onto Kongo. Probably not too much of a bother. Lose a few this time, but wear down some zeros too. I'll rest these until the turn I decide to hit with combined CV air, 4E and bombardments if that works out. It's getting interesting!

I'll build Suva, the New Hebrides, and into the Southern Solomons until there is a response to shut it down. So far so good. If he has to fight down here it's likely the KB will have to be involved, which means I can keep track of where it is. That's the goal anyway.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font] Unfortunately the sync bug that showed a larger strike hitting the mini-KB is not reality. Instead a small strike of Vindicators did go in, but none hit anything. Lost a few Vindys, a few Buffs and just a couple Marine Wildcats. The CVs are at Soerabaja with a few other SCTFs that all got ammo and fuel. Force Z still needs a top up and will arrive tomorrow with a few more cruisers.

This is getting tense. He isn't using his CVs with strike planes, but there are Netties about, I'm sure. I'll stay close to Soerabaja this turn in case their turned on and see if we can't use the extra LBA CAP to ward them off and wear them down.

On the 30th the Dutch silent service has another success, hitting BB Kongo at Balikpapan with one fish. While this won't send the ship under, it leads to some interesting possibilities.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font]After the turn I notice that it seems all Japanese combat ships around Balikpapan are disbanded. Wow! The base is open, the 88 fighters listed there are vulnerable to bombardments. I'd already moved out from Soerabaja, and Force Z plus two CA TFs and one CL TF and the Dutch could be available. That's a lot, but he has a bunch of CAs here too.

I can't rely on getting to the base at night with everything at 9 hexes distant, so I'll send in Force Z plus one CA TF to Balikpapan for a day bombardment. The Dutch will try to gt there with the CLs at night to sweep and maybe get a first bombardment in. Another CA TF will will hit Samarinda in the day which also has some fights and bombers listed. If I can close both fields then the 4Es can really wipe up and also hit the 3-4 injured ships in Balikpapan port (the Kongo plus at least 2-3 CA).

This is getting exciting and tense! I'll post the USN CVs near Banjarmasin with some LR CAP there over the fleet. Until I know the base is hit, zeros damaged and demoralised, I'll keep the CV air and 4Es on a tight leash.

The IJN continues to hit Batavia with modest effect, but again loses a DD to a mine. The DD losses are getting more serious for Japan.

This is a great spot to slow one line of advance if these troops can hold another 10-12 turns. Getting a big stop with massive disablements for the IJA could bode well to hold here.

Here is a bigger pic of China. The Japanese haven't shown their hand yet. The Allies will have a few eyes too as Lysanders enter China. The AVG is just sitting and waiting.

I haven't mentioned the drama on Malaya. This 8th Indian Brigade has travelled nearly the length of the peninsula and has defied the odds by now making it to Singers. It'll join two others to make the 9th Indian division and give Singers a solid 1100-1200AV. Forts are 3.4 and rising currently. Only very sporadic bombing has hit the base so far.

A lot of clear territory here and lots of planes to hit. If I can close the fields those airframes will all just be sitting there waiting to be flamed by 4Es and they'll be no cover for all of those ships, including the several that have taken Dutch torps.

The Allies are going all-in. We'll be hung out with little ammo for the next day if we do hit the base, but a dust up without air cover should still allow for some success the following day, and I've got two new CA TFs arriving too. On top of that, the oil will be wide open!

The Dutch head in first. Three Kageros hold off three CL and 5 DD and put two CL out for the rest of the fight, maybe for good considering tomorrow expected battles. A poor showing for the Dutch. At least two of the three Kageros are sunk or in bad shape.
