yet another mystery solved...

Post by Hermann »

I've decided to apply a little of my brilliance to the problem of multiplayer games. Confusion and delays being the prime mover. The best way seems to be email believe it or not. first thing we need to address is the time issues. that's resolved by having 1 player move units. I like the idea o a wiki or chat for discussions and strategic planning that's just plain cool, but moving units creates friction. First you have the 2 Leaders - that's an important job and their function is to move the units. they cant touch OKH units, Army group units or air units, or command points. OK now that that's laid out we establish a sequence of events. First you need air commanders one per side. Then you need Stavka and OKH commanders. Now Army Group and Front commanders. The players responsible for OKH and Stavka Actually receive their sides email. They Check it out and assign reserve units to The relevant formations. This is done with written instructions. Basically AGN proceed to Leningrad with all available forces ive assigned 245,234,222 divisions at riga to agn. Luftwaffe provide ground support as required. etc... He then sends the file via email to the ground and Luftwaffe commanders but not the field commander. The field and Luftwaffe commanders review the file and then send their orders back to the okh commander along with requests for reinforcements or changes in the plan attack in the direction of Leningrad with 1 army and in the direction of Staraya russa with 16 army keep 4pza in the vicinity of Novgorod to exploit success etc... there can be more detail. Now its the job of the field commander to read the instructions. the fbds can be attached to the security formations and they in turn to to the army groups so the local commanders can plot their supply path. if one guy moves the units theres no problems with borrowing stuff and the field commanders only function is movement and attack. saves a ton of time.

Thats what we are doing (at least in theory) in the 8 player multiplayer game? The evil german fascists (did I alread mention you should never trust them because they are evil?) have created a very structured document, look into their thread for more information.

We are working on version 4 updated for SUs. But yes this detail and more is there. You can see version 3 at Click here and look at post 35. We also keep strategy, maps and other plans in our dropbox.

no - could only happen if one commander lends another some of their units with specific instructions. It would be very rare and probably only on a boundary. So far even when one commander has allowed another to move their units it has been very obvious why. The principle is each commander has their own sphere in which they can do what they want without refer backs or decision by committee. The protocol is more about saying what you can do with confidence rather than being micromanaged. The written instructions are only allocations (units, points, rail cap etc) and broad objectives.
