I do have a question regarding the EMP. What about the vintage units (with 50s-70s techs) that even transistors are only a few inside? Are they immune or rapidly recoverable from EMP attack? I have heard that numerous old fighters and bombers are using analog rudders and avionics.

My idea is the large wave of old MiGs storming forth while commencing EMP/nuclear strike, disabling hostile air defenses except the old steels are keep flying.

They are not immune but they are less likely to be affected.

There are three main factors that determine the probability of damage:

1) Pulse strength, which is related to distance from detonation (High-altitude/near-space detonations produce an almost uniform "blanket", which makes the pulse strength less sensitive to distance. Low/med-altitude detonations OTOH produce a spherical effect, similar to explosive blast, which makes pulse strength directly relevant to distance).

2) Tech generation of sensor / comm-device (systems of early-60s and earlier tech gen are less affected, and from the early '70s and onwards there is an increasing degree of vulnerability).

3) Whether the device is operating or not (keeping a sensor off will not make it immune as there is still a chance of being affected, but is far less likely). In one of the Chains Of War scenarios you have to keep this in mind because you will have to use EMPs fairly close to your forces.

Got it. So the engines and rudders might run fine, but the attack effectiveness will be very limited because sensors are still important.

This could help for scenario editing too, thanks.

well, maybe. your average modern jet uses at least relaxed static stability and relies on a complicated electronic flight control system.

fry that and worst case you're going to 90 AOA and falling out of the sky.

What I said is the rusty Farmers and Sabers, some fanboys believes it can just straight out and ignores EMP, as they said some countries keep them for a reason.

Could not be able to call for help or assist to land because radio is fried, I could give it that. But some gauges are still runs mechanically and at least give pilots some clues what to do, not hopelessly staring at the blank monitors.

I'm thinking of buying Chains of War, but I suspect it will be sold only for download and not also on DVD, as it has usually been the case with Matrix Games. If my suspicion is correct, is there a way I can download it twice for my two PCs, without paying for two games? I think so but not sure. Thanks.[&:]

Hey there,
Can you not take the .zip file or whatever format this falls into and place it on a zip drive or thumbdrive or even a CD/R and store it that way.
To MatrixGames, if I am doing something wrong, I am NOT intending to. In fact the machine I play this game on is not internet connected so I HAVE to do it this way.
Can you do that Ginetto?

Well, the simple solution is to use steam. You can uninstall CoW on one PC and reinstall it on another quite easily. It will be much smaller than the full game, so it shouldn't take too long at all, when you bounce back and forth. You just need to remember to uninstall it, while online with steam, using the steam uninstaller.

With Steam the game is tied to your account. So you could in theory install the game to 100 PCs without having to uninstall first.
Steam only allows a user to be to logged into your account from one machine at a time so if you log in on one machine you will be logged out of all others.
I have not tested the '100' theory but I do currently have the game installed to 4 machines without any issue

I use the Steam version on two different PCs at two different locations without needing to uninstall. You just can't run them simultaneously.

Just curious if the Slitherine servers are all set to handle the flood that will be taking place over the next few hours. [:D]

I have a sneaking suspicion that with a few exceptions - those who have remarked that this,(and other) DLC updates are unreasonable, most of the Command Community will be busy downloading, soon.

Before I get my copy, I just want the Developers to know their work is greatly appreciated by MOST of us, and to take a moment to say "THANK YOU".

I agree with Nutworld...THANK YOU to the Devs for all the work they KEEP doing on CMANO. Some people are never pleased, but many of us are thankful and plan on getting lots of enjoyment from CoW. It will be a very exciting day soon [:D]
