Learning the air game

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Is there a good resource on the airgame? WITW airgame seems much more clearer but in WITE it's very confusing.

I have some problems with this also, sometimes an attack to a hex get a lot of escort and bombers, then in the next hex closer to my front, I got only bombers, no escort. I can't grasp well how it works, in WitW is more complex but it's also more clear.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, you didn't plan your mission properly.

Carefull the automatic selection of air unit for ground bombing have a lot of problem in my opinion.

If you want to perform ground attack mission, it is better to manually select air squad (Shift + ground attack). Also first select the airfield you want to conduct the attack. If the game propose you only bomber and no escort (while the target is not out of range), select another airfield full of fighters for example before trying ground bombing.

You have to select the airfield before each raid.

If you do not mind micromanaging you get better results still turning the airgroups you want to day missions and the ones you do not want to night missions (or vice versa for a night mission). Manually selecting airgroups (Shift+click) gets worse results than an automatic mission when the same airgroups perform the mission (I assume a bug) - but it can still be used to see what is available if you always press cancel at end. You can still select an airfield with auto missions of course.
