Having waited patiently till October, I finally get my first Jack Sentai. I move it to Singers, a level 8 runway with over 60K supplies, and I cannot manually upgrade it.

This is the 2nd squadron that upgrades are screwed up on, the other a key Oscar III squadron cannot upgrade to Oscar IV.

This bites.[:@]

Has not been true for other squadrons...I have been able to manually upgrade with as few as 1 plane. If this becomes the case I am really screwed.

For example, just manually upgraded to Peggy here with only 10 planes...

Hrm.

Well, what you have then is potentially a DB bug, which may not be fixable in a game in progress without Michael's help, if you can find him.

This would be the sort of thing I would ask for his gracious assistance on, if it doesn't resolve itself. Having several squadrons stuck on early war planes for no good reason isn't entirely game breaking, but it is limiting when you need every front line squadron you can get.

I think if the squadron gets removed later in the game...then it needs a full contingent of planes to upgrade. Serious problem for me with Tony & Jack perhaps more...

Still testing my hypothesis however.

So far two squadrons stuck at Tony 61A, No Jack squadrons for another two months to three at least., if I blow the supply to make a new factory. Not sure what else is impacted... probably more Tony squadrons that come as reinforcements...probably night fighters...probably some of the stranger recon planes...

Ergh, what a royal mess.

This is not a bug but WAD from day one.  It applies equally to PDU OFF as to PDU ON.

Air units which are not scheduled to withdraw can be manually upgraded if there is 1 airframe in the pools.  Units which are scheduled to withdraw can only be manually upgraded if the full TOE complement in airframes are in the pool.  For automatic upgrades the full complement is necessary to be in the pool for both PDU OFF and PDU ON.

I think a string of them could slow a bombardment TF down enough for a KB trap. Sounds like a good idea. Of course, the lack of fuel is going to make things tough.

Wa

Not really my experience. Mostly, they just sink and provide the Allies with 4 free VPs. Ops points burn on the Allied ships appears negligible - when I've encountered them, sometimes as many as 3 or 4 in a single night phase, my ships have been completely unimpeded in terms of how much they moved.

Lokasenna is correct in his conclusion but the process is not accurate.

Ops points do not factor in actual ship movement per se. They are taken into account in areas such as loading/unloading, refuelling which are "stationary" activities. In abstract terms they represent the time necessary to undertake those "stationary" activities and consequently reduce the available time for actual travel movement in the turn.

The actual travel movement is really only impacted by the fuel usage and fuel stock. Thus more hexes will be travelled at a higher fuel consumption rate (aka full speed), fewer hexes travelled if the fuel stock is exhausted necessitating "at sea" refuelling (where the ops points again come into play by determining how much time is consumed).

When players ascribe their TFs not arriving on schedule due to Ops points issues what they are usually seeing is really the effect of combat. For combat (be it surface, air attack et al) causes additional fuel consumption.

So when Lokasenna notes his TFs arrival not being impacted by midget subs it is because his TF's increased fuel consumption was not sufficient to eat into his TF fuel stock to the extent where an Ops points activity (aka at sea refuelling) became necessary and thus no travel time was lost.

Yep, stir the bitter tea I brewed for myself by trying to be too clever by half.[:D]

I vaguely recall this being the case...probably take 100,000 supply to fix over the course of the game. That or use them as trainers.

What a harsh blow, only 4 squadrons fly the Jack for the entire game, and one of them gets pulled and pulled relative early. Oh, cruel game.[:'(]

This is a most succinct description. It now becomes clear.
