What do you target on Wooden island? And how do you manage its SAM defense? WIll I get a popup about the chinese SSBN or will I have to find it myself?

I managed to win. Tough breaking that SAM defense though, even with tomahawks from two directions at the same time. Finding the SSBN was pretty random.

Got a few hits in on Woody with a coordinated attack but really just had to deplete the local SAMs. Got one SSBN but the other escaped (never detected). No SSN losses.

I wonder if it's possible to get close to the island and shoot at minimum range (i.e. about 5nm), hoping that the missiles get through to the base before the SAM cycles through its OODA loop. I only got a few hits on Woody, but managed to catch the SSBNs thanks to both of them stumbling into the Seawolf's convergence zones simultaneously.

I managed to find and sink the 3 SSBN and their escort. Only took me 3 tries, haha

I'm hardly a newbie to subs in Command, but in two goes I haven't found anything. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I creep and sprint, snoop above and below the layers, and I integrated my sonar rings to overlap and I have no idea why I can't find them. Jins are notoriously noisy too, so I'm surprised I'm having so much difficulty.

Ideas? Clues? It it just random dumb luck?

Wow, this one is rough. Ok, 7 plays through and I haven't even seen a Chinese sub yet. Lost the Connie twice to aircraft. Fired some Tomahawks at Woody Island in 3 missions and managed to hit one Runway Intersection...one time...

Where are the subs?

You sure are not the only one. I interpreted my orders as primary goal to sink the SSBNs, secondary to attack Woody Island so I aimed to find the subs as fast as possible. But so far on four tries I have had no luck. Essentially getting one SSN lost every try. I haven't even tried to target Woody Island. (Will a successful attack on Woody help my scoring?)

As you I have tried the sprint and drift technique at different depths. I have detected a few SSNs but not for long and never got a good firing solution on them. As I am playing in campaign mode I am stuck here as it seems I cannot get to the next scenario without a win. (Which seems a bit odd BTW. You should be able to lose one battle but continue the war)
Cheers,

Took a look at this one. The hint I'll give is that if you follow the orders in the briefing, you almost can't miss both boomers. I played through twice quickly and killed them both both times.

I've been having trouble finding the boomers as well. 5 tries and no dice. The only sub I've come across was a Kilo SS when I ran the Connecticut up the Vietnamese coast. I've been successful with the Tomahawk attacks against Woody Island. Launching all TLAMs from both subs at once, including the TLAMs in the Santa Fe's torpedo tubes, will overwhelm the SAMs on the island. Last attempt, I destroyed the control tower, a hangar and 3 helos. But again the SSBNs got away. I've tried everything I could think of, sprint and drift above and below the layer, overlapping CZs, sitting and waiting outside the MPA patrol area, etc...I've even tried sending the Connecticut on a full speed run toward the SSBN base, but did not get past the MPAs patrolling west of Woody Is. Would love to hear where some others might have caught those boomers...thx

tbachus, try running Connecticut straight at the Hainan naval base just above the layer at cruising speed. Sometime after you launch the attack on Woody Island you should detect one, then the other SSBN escorted by at least one SSN. In one playthrough I had sonobuoys dropped nearby once, but Connecticut is stealthy enough to keep going unless one gets dropped right on top of you.

Thanks Airborne. I was able to find and sink one of the SSBNs with the Connecticut and had a contact on the other using the Santa Fe, but the scenario seemed to end suddenly before the time expired. Since I had a Minor Victory I decided to move on.

I got all the SSBN patrolling with the 2 USN sub well spaced about 30 nm. Anyway I several BOL torpedoes launches in wire control to flush them if my TMA was not good enough or I was losing contact. The tactic proved especially successfull working with the 2 subs together, essentially driving enemy boats toward my other sub. I saved often anyway trying different moves.

Scored some hits on Woody, killing 3-4 ASW helicopters.
Some of the surviving ASW helo found me, but thery were not able to hit me if I dive very deep ;)
After killing the last SSBN a surface action group charged at my postion, searching for me with helos. I had to hide but managed to kill them too with a big torpedo attack.

Very cool scenario, nice work!
