A new TMTSNBN? Or something better? Midway
According to "Comming Soon" http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/8 ... d-emmerich
Roland Emmerich is going to be directing a new movie on the battle of Midway.
I am skeptical that it will be better than the one we already have...

What, a Chinese production company making a movie, with the director of Independence Day at the helm? What could go wrong?!? [8|]
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
RE: A new TMTSNBN? Or something better? Midway
My cynical take: two options, as follows.
1. Show the historical battle, details of air search, planning, tactics, and actual operations. But a generally historically illiterate audience won't know the background, either on a large scale (why was each side fighting WW2) or a smaller scale (Doolittle Raid, Coral Sea), in order to understand why each side was there, what forces they had, and what their objectives were.
2. Planes! Ships! Subs! Bombs! Torpedoes! Enhanced with CGI!! And, for good measure, throw in a love triangle, because ... Hollywood.
Guess which one is more likely? [8|]

Hilarious, but it wasn't until the end of the film that Kurt was correctly wearing his beret, i.e., in the opening scenes, it looked like a Jiffy Pop was on his head!

It might be worth it if they can actually get the state of the Japanese CVs correct at the time of the DB attack. Still amazes me the REALITY shown in Shattered Sword versus the FICTION in Fuchida's writing.

Yup, currently reading Shattered Sword. I would say a masterful analysis of space&time of events.

The Nimitz, through computer error, strikes the US task force. [:D]

This is a fallacy, read Shattered Sword if you haven't already.

He was quoting Fuchida.

I almost said the same thing then recognized the quote. Well DONE!

Well he has four Japanese carriers to blow up. I guess that in the real battle the experience for the Japanese was not much different than the initial attack in Independence Day...

Well, the original flick had Hellcats, angle-decked carriers and other monstrosities, plus a fictional social justice plotline, so let's hope this one's an improvement.
Hahaha, who am I kidding? Emmerich?
Cheers,
