Haven't been following this AAR since its opening day moves. I'm looking to get hold of Obvert. He hasn't posted since 5/20 (in this AAR) and hasn't responded to a PM sent on 5/23.

Does anyone here have any additional information about his status?

Has it been that long? Wow. It's been a bit of a blur.

This is the busy time for a teacher or art. We had the Advanced Placement Exhibit last week and the Film Festival this week, both of which I was in charge of managing. So in addition to dad duties I've just had to drop the forum in favour of keeping some pace i noted games. I'll be posting more starting tomorrow again. I have to catch up on some interesting things!

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font]Back to the war. Subs can't find Yamashiro but will post on the approaches to Hong Kong and the straits back toward the HI. Three fish in her belly should make her slow and vulnerable.

The other Allied subs now congregate around the KB. a few torps let loose at what is most probably the KB screen, with CL Abukuma the target today. No hits. Soerabaja still provides fuel and munitions.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font] Feeling out what CAP is left and were it is now. A lot of Nates around. I like that. Almost 140 A6M2 are already torched. The production early won't keep up with those kinds of losses, and if he decides to ramp up production extensively that will begin to impact long term planning for 2nd and 3rd gen research and production. Having too many A6M is not always good in the long term.

What are the production numbers to begin, 56 factories? How many in reserve, surely not 140?

The Oscar is also a question. The Ki-43 Ia is virtually used up, there are not good reserves of Ib or Ic to start. Will he ramp those up to 100+ too? The Tojo will be around by April, but until then he has some interesting decisions to make. Flying Nates means losing more decent pilots.

Long term none of these things will matter terribly once the Georges and Franks start coming. i have ideas about that though, for the future. For now I want to limit Japanese control of the sky for 42, and especially for big pushes in to Allied territory or VP harvesting in OZ or elsewhere.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] The Japanese are making no moves so far other than the small force aiming at Sian down the yellow road South of Yenan. I've begun sitting units in good territory to build forts and recover disabled squads.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]OZ:[/font] A few groups of P-40Es arrived finally in Brisbane. Some Hurry IIb are heading over from Cape Town. The Aussies and NZ groups of Buffalos head back toward Darwin to train and get some better planes eventually. Damaged ships are stopping off at Perth and heading out to Cape Town.

You are correct with the starting A6M2 production number at 56. Those losses will hurt and the pooled reserves are less than 100. I always find Oscar production takes 3-4 months to get to a decent level.

The trick, as you know, is the more aggressive you are as Japan early, you either up production to keep up with losses, or try to manage sustainable production to get by and devote your resources to next generation models.

In my game against Francois, I'm trying to get by with no increase to A6M2 production to get me through until the A6M3 and A6M3a are online. So far so good, but Francois is being exceptionally kind to me this time and is nowhere to be seen. [:D]

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font] Now this is interesting. Probably just FOW, but the number of A6M2 losses jumped today to 171 (!) and the losses appear to be added on the ground. CVE Taiyo was hit by KVIII with one fish a few days ago, but if she went under that would just be odd. I guess fires could have done it. She was hit right next to Balikpapan, so it's possible the fires just kept burning. I might have to pay some attention there again.

He tries a night bombing at Singers with a few Sallies. Flak performs well, and there is no damage to the base.

Allied CLs hit Johore Bharu in the nick of time, getting to a good crop of IJAAF airframes, including the small Tojo group. The remaining Tojos still sweep Singers, but it'll be tough to keep them effective with only a about 5 left. Some Lilys come in alone as well, probably after morale causes escorts not to fly after the bombardments. [;)]

While I can't claim to be art, or even perform art, I do help students i photography and film-making. Not a bad kind of work, although this time of year it can be crazy. Two more weeks until summer break though!! [&o]

Still, this is daily interaction with capital ships from the Allied subs, so I'll take it. Law of averages.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font] Allied cruisers strike again at Johore, but the base was abandoned, of course. This at least pushes them to greater distance and potentially takes a few days to get things repaired and base forces to set up elsewhere. I'll start keeping an eye on the other 4+ sized airfields on Malaya to see if we can get in a few more shots by sea or air.

The Japanese land at Denpasar to get the size 3 field, but to be honest it doesn't matter much now since the Dutch have little left. The USAAF 4E base is as yet untouched, but this is a harder task for the Japanese, and I'll shift it around, so hopefully the shell game will keep us going for a bit.

The KB hits Soerabaja just as I suspected ,and a very damaged CL Raleigh and two mildly damaged DDs escape, but I wonder for how long. I was hoping to run and disband, but they stayed out in the open and were seen. Now it's up to whether he goes for them or not.

Still, it's meant to make us feel uncomfortable and unable to live as we normally do from day to day. I dislike the reactions of putting armed guards on the subway platforms suddenly, and putting extra blockades and security in areas that are likely targets just for a temporary show of force.

Real defiance is not changing what we do every day and not staying in the house because threats are out there. I feel for the innocents, and it hits harder when it's closer, but other parents have been losing children across the world because of these extreme actions for a long time. I feel for them all, and this just brings it home to make sure we stay strong.
