Air Replacements arriving at random locations?

Post by atheory »

It's september 1942. For the last 10 turns I started having my aircraft replacements arrive at seemingly random locations. I am not sure of the cause or how to fix this. So any ideas would be helpful.

Actions I've taken thus far
1. Set all air groups to manual replacements
2. Tried adjusting Air HQs and the units attached to them.
3. Reinstalled the game.

A couple of examples of what is happening
1. I have a bomber unit stationed at Adak Island. This unit was divided so it had A/B/C units at Adak. 3 Replacement aircraft for C unit arrived at Pegu.........all the way near Rangoon.

2. I've had 3 fighter units, mostly stationed at Rangoon, now have replacements arriving at Pegu, Kendari and Tokyo.

These planes arrive in damaged state with zero pilots and I cannot attach pilots to them. I can move them via raillink only, but can move the parent unit to their location so they can combine.

This is from a PBEM game, so I'd hate to not be able to resolve this.

Thanks

The replacements you are seeing show up are showing up at the base with the Air HQ that the unit is assigned to (or the top-level command HQ if the air unit is independent, IIRC).

This happens when you have replacements set to on and the base(s) at/near the unit are unable to fulfill the automatic replacements request. Turning replacements to manual should prevent this behavior.

What happens if you remove some pilots from the parent unit? You may be able to add pilots to this fragment then? FYI, just a single pilot in this group fragment would enable "flying" the whole fragment to another base. I think.

Why would it wait 9 months before this issue turned up? Interesting.

turns out I only turned auto pilot replacement off....I will turn replacements off as well and just manually do it. we'll see what happens.

Thanks

I think there are a number of factors in play here including Air HQ location but also supply, airbase size and aviation support where the squadron is located, or where the replacements may alternatively show up. There's nothing random about it, more often than not I think I've experienced them arriving at Tokyo and had to fly them all the way to the front. I think if you have a really strong, well developed and well supplied base nearer to the front they may be more likely to show up there.

Thanks for the comments, still doesn't explain why this issue started near turn 250 and had not surfaced anytime beforehand. While I'm sure some of the above comments is behind the underlining issue, I'm still perplexed.

Anywho, still waiting for the next turn and will see if my issue is resolved by simply turning off air replacements. Fingers crossed.

It does, because it depends on the base they're at not meeting the requirements for taking replacements directly from the base they're at (or a base within range with an HQa).

What have the supplies at Adak been like? what's the size of the airfield? Are there any HQa's within command range? Etc.

Read section 16.2 of the manual, it explains a lot of this.
