21.12.1941 CALM

CENT.PAC. AREA

As KB is returning to rearm and refuel to Kwajalein, it’s air-groups are practicing ASW warfare. I’ll try to work them up to at least skill 50 so they can be put into good use in shallow waters around Borneo where Dutch subs are lurking and giving us pain. Truk is expanding to port lvl 7, needed for our Battleships rearmament needs. Our subs are positioned around Hawaii and West Coast but also waiting beneath several US island ports, waiting for US garrisons to arrive.

MALAYAN THEATER:

We are enjoying relative calm in naval operations around Borneo for the time being, while Allies are licking their wounds from our previous engagements. Singawang has been mined and strong ASW and surface patrols have been established to prevent our transports from being hit. Almost 10 engineer units have been landed so far so base will be ready in a day or two. Moping up operations of NW Borneo stragglers have also started.

One significant action in this area was first DA on defenders of Kuantan and quite successful one:

21.12.1941 CLARK FALLS

CENT.PAC. AREA

No noteworthy events today.

PI AREA:

We’ve arranged for dozen of AMc’s to try and de-mine Bataan straits. Idea is to position 3 AKEs in Batangas and conduct daily bombardments of Bataan but for that to work, we’ll need that area at least partially de-mined. Problem is, artillery in Bataan is simply murderous:

TF 308 encounters mine field at Bataan (78,77) - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

15 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.

Japanese Ships
AMc Toroshima Maru, Shell hits 9, on fire, heavy damage
AMc Kaiyo Maru #1, Shell hits 6, heavy fires, heavy damage
AMc Hinode Maru #17, Shell hits 9, heavy fires, heavy damage
AMc Choun Maru #7, Shell hits 8, on fire, heavy damage

Our bombing of Cagayan continues with one B17 bagged this time:

Our troops that landed in Lingayen couple of days ago, and received a grubbing while doing so, managed to force-march to Clark Field, DA it and take it over! It helped that Allies have withdrawn from Clark towards Bataan but we are glad it worked out this way. Now we’ll send bunch of engineers to repair the airfield and put it into operation. Manila is next!

Ground combat at Clark Field (79,76)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 10003 troops, 59 guns, 132 vehicles, Assault Value = 383

22.12.1941 SARATOGA WOUNDED

CENT.PAC. AREA

Our wolfpacks around Hawaii have picked another victim: Saratoga:

Sub attack near Pearl Harbor at 180,106

Japanese Ships
SS I-18

Allied Ships
CV Saratoga, Torpedo hits 2
CL Concord

There is no major damage so it will have to sped few weeks in repair yards of Pearl to be OK but anyway it’s great news for us. We’ve decided to split KB in two parts, fast group consisting of Shokaku, Zuikaku, Hiryu and Soryu and fast BBs Kongo, Haruna, Hiei and Kirishima is setting towards Truk and from there to DEI where it will hunt for subs and aid our troops in capture of remaining bases, just like it did at Wake. Our slow CVs Kaga and Akagi, together with CVLs will create another group which will protect Central Pacific area.
