Good session last night! Will post soon.

Vonik - Mark said he either didn't see the Bessarabia option, or just missed it. He agrees that it would be a big mistake if he simply missed it.

I know I made a pretty stark choice vis-à-vis Romania - not sure if that had any effect.

EDIT - Mark will be by tomorrow night and I'll ask him. Just curious now.

Your choices towards Romania have no effect .
The Bessarabia event comes to the Russian player about at the same time when he invades the Baltic countries .
If he says yes, you can do Nothing against it .
I am not sure if the event always comes but I am sure that I always had it and always said yes .
This blocks the Romanian advance towards Uman for several turns .

Nice AAR that's a lot of Panzer corps in USSR I take it by not defending NA your opponent must be planning an invasion in your rear BTW what campaign are you playing vanilla or some other ?

Cheers Ian
The battle of Medjerda is almost forgotten, but was fought against highly disciplined German troops and blasted a route straight to Tunis it was a perfect infiltration battle and should be remembered as the best fought British battle of the war.

Hi Ian - I am preparing for a very early second front - at least on the Continent. Fairly certain that he moved his Naval assets from the Med to the Atlantic (I cannot find them). I have been heavily researching U-Boat Tech and, might try a lark and go for domination of the Atlantic with a large U-Boat/Capital Ship Flotilla. Bolstered by the Italians. Highly risky, I know, but I imagine that Tech 3 U-Boats are hard to sink at this stage of the game. If I can put his Navy down and still have a chance to repair mine, so much the better. And yes, I went very heavy on Panzers/Mech preparing for a short war. I worry that if I do not win in Russia on time, these decisions will come back to haunt me.

Waiting, for now, until Mark shows his hand on the West Front. Then counter-attack the fleet supporting same.

Next time, will show screenshot of my Continental defenses. I have no idea if they are too much or too little.

I don't know Vonik, I don't know.

Normally the Reds are inf 2 latest september 41 . He's still 0 in July .
Perhaps he produced loads of tanks but on the East Front everything is played in 41 - the ground and time lost then is hard to impossible to get back as you have seen in your previous game .
His low tech Soviet units simply evaporate and buy neither time nor space . Very Strange .

He lost badly in France, we were both surprised by North Africa, so I think he thinks that he has to do something desperate. Get me deep into Russia and low on supply, and open up one (or more) second fronts in the West to draw off manpower.

To win our "bet" he has to win by 1944.

Remember I kept Greece out of the war AND got lucky with reinforcements that I could (and did) place right at the Yugoslavian border immediately after he brought them to his side. Those two Panzers and SF troops took Yugo in a few turns and still came JUST late to Barbarossa. Finland is not in and I haven't tried to get Spain. In fact, I'm not sure it is worth it to get Norway and Denmark.

So I am trying to make it as small a frontline as possible, and win on quality. Mark needs to broaden the line and go after either (1) my Panzers or (2) my weaker than normal infantry forces, forcing the Panzers to run to and fro to counter-attack and plug gaps.

I asked Mark if he would like to post his side, and I won't repeat what he said :)

It's not over yet - he is a good player whenever we play on cardboard. This game perhaps has just caught him a bit unawares.
