CVL initiates combat, no additional planes.

The French sub stays but remains on the bottom. Return the damaged sub to Marseilles?

I need to get to bed now. I choose assaults if you attack and I can choose. Any aborted Dutch ships to Plymouth.

The Axis throw caution to the wind. Since good odds attacks seem to consistently (across several games) lead to rubbish die rolls, maybe attacking at bad odds will have the opposite effect.

So much for that theory. I think I'll finish at this point. In truth, my heart wasn't in it anymore after yet another game I started as Axis being trashed by rubbish die rolls at the start. It really doesn't seem worth the effort of setting up.

That wasn't bad luck, but bad tactics. All you had to do was add a corps in the adjacent hex to the invasion attack.

The Axis had good luck in their invasion force not being found on about a 45% chance. The Royal Navy got greedy in the Med and didn't put a CV with a long range plane in the 4 box of the North Sea to defend against this Axis move, which could have given them about a 65% overall chance of finding the German heavy cruiser, if they hadn't put a FTR in the 1 box. (If the Germans roll a 3 or 4, the Cruiser has to pick a box to fight - thus it is best for the RN to have a single force in the 4 box if this invasion is expected for best overall chance. The Germans can also help themselves by sending the Cruiser and their NAV to 3 box, or sending more of the Kriegsmarine).

The Rotterdam invasion gambit is moderate risk, some reward. When it rains - if the Germans don't have an HQ and a 6 movement point ARM/MECH on the Dutch border on the North Sea Coast, the Dutch can stop the whole thing by simply setting up their INF east of Rotterdam.

However I don't understand how the invasion started at +2 before mods, +0 net.

The odds would have been 0. 5 : 1, same as 1:2 = +0 on 2d10. -2 Weather, -1 City, +1 disorganized defender (automatic for notional) = net -2 I would think? Am I missing something?

Wouldn't you round the 0.5 attack factor to 1? So 0.5 if rounded to 1 would give you 1:1, or +2 on the 2d10. Then -2, -1 and + 1 for a 0 overall.

I have never thought about this before but Italy can always safely rescue the Supply Unit in any game if it wishes. Impulse #1, Axis - TRS sails to Red Sea Impulse #2, Allies - Allies DoW Germany, no other DoW allowed Impulse #3, Axis - Italian TRS Returns to Base Impulse #4, Allies - First chance for Allied DoW thanks guys

There is another way without risking a TRS[;)]

And I don't mean marching it to Tripoli.
Conflict with the unexpected: two qualities are indispensable; first, an intellect which, even in the midst of this obscurity, is not without some traces of inner light which lead to the truth; second, the courage to follow this faint light. KvC

I'm well aware that last set of attacks, except against the INF in Holland, were "bad tactics". I indicated as much in the post announcing them.

The invasion was a mistake. My hazy memory of when it had been used against me was it had been automatic. I should have checked.

I will rerun the land combat later this evening without the bad attacks. The invasion will still happen but to a non city beachhead.

I've never considered a 0.5 factor attack before. If you round up before calculating odds, there is no point in adding Shore Bombardment unless you add aerial Ground Support - begging a question of a similar case -- 1.5 : 1 is 2:1, or 3:2 ?

There is a way to play Fractional Odds called "Straight Fractionals" without anything rounded, ever. So is 3.5 : 7 a straight 1:2, or is it a 1:2 with a chance on an extra die to raise it to 1:1 ?

And then there is the mind-bending question of how Fractionals work below 1:1 anyway.

Rounding up first is a nice little bump for the micro-attack.
