.26B...."No PW Data"

Post by Rusty1961 »

Okay, I downloaded and installed .26B.
Then when I ran it I got the "No PW data!" error message.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Don't have time for screenshots, but your shortcut is pointing to the wrong target(s). The beta patches install a new EXE.

My Target for one game: "C:\Matrix Games\WITP AE DIEGO GAME\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -multiaudio -archive -dd_sw -cpu4 -fd -px1680 -py1050

That "Beta2" bit is the key.

So shall I just cut and paste what you have? And where do I paste it if so?

Thank you.

There are others far better at tech support than I am, but here's a go.

You can't cut and paste mine since I doubt you're playing someone named "Diego." The shortcut entries have to match your file structure on your install.

Do this. Open your game folder. Look for the sub-folder named "Beta2." Open it. Inside you see a bunch of files, but one is a new EXE file for the game that replaces the one in the main install folder. Your launch shortcut has to point to this EXE.

On your desktop you should have a new, blank shortcut that the beta patch left for you. Right click on it, and left click on "Properties." That's where you enter the path to the new Beta2 EXE you installed.

Mine looks like this:

You need to fill in both the "Target" line and the "Start in" line. The game switches are added to the Target line entry as you saw in mine. The particular switches are customized to your PC and preferences, so you can't just use mine. Details on the switches are in the ReadMe notes in the Beta2 sub-folder.

Also, if you use Tracker, you will need to copy the file "pwsdll.dll" to the Tracker folder.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your assistance! I got the game up and running.

The only problem now is it takes more than 2 hours to watch a turn replay. This machine is an I5, Dell 7000 with about 12 or 16 Gigs of RAM and a 1TB graphics card.

My preiouvs machine, a 2008 Dell could do the turn in 10 minutes if I kept hitting escape.

Any ideas?
