El Lobo's wife has been cleared of all espionage charges. However, she is having such a good time shopping at the Mall of America in Minneapolis Minnesota (where she had been interned), that she has advised El Lobo that she will not be home anytime soon.
Synopsis of Combat Report for Today
1.) Japanese bombed Chungking.
2.) Japanese deliberately attacked near Chihkiang (hex 77,50). Japanese won the battle inflicting substantial casualties on the 29th and 38th Chinese Corps causing them to retreat.
3.) Japanese deliberately attacked near Chungking. Japanese won the battle. Japanese suffered minimal casualties whereas the Chinese suffered moderate casualties. The 12th and 35th Chinese Corps' held their turf.

BB Colorado continues to limp along and is less than a week from reaching the safe waters of Pearl Harbor.
Synopsis of Combat Events for Today
1.) A Slow day.
2.) Japanese bombed Chungking.
3.) Japanese deliberately attacked near Chengtu. The Japanese won the battle suffering minimal casualties whereas the Chinese suffered moderate casualties. My brave 16th, 32nd, and 40th Chinese Corps' didn't budge and held their ground.

Highlight for Today
Captain Jenkins entered the Quonset hut rapping his swagger stick against the top of his knee-high, spit-shined boots. The Captain wasn’t liked by the troops under his command as he was a bit of an asshole.
The Gunny bellowed out, “Attention!”
Marines clad in shorts, some shirtless, scrambled to snap to attention. The Quonset hut had suddenly become very quiet as Captain Jenkins’ boots pounded the floor as he made his way down the aisle between the bunk-beds. Corporal Manning thought to himself, “This can’t be good, he looks way too serious this morning.”
“Men,” he started, staring at the eighteen year old boy from San Angelo, Texas, “Get your act together and be prepared to move out at the drop of a helmet.” He made a sharp turn and left the Quonset hut.
The Gunny ordered, “Marines, double-check everything, make sure the guns and all your equipment are fully functional, and be prepared to saddle-up.” He grinned, “Our time has come.” A wave of his arm was followed by, “At ease.”
The Marines milled about, questions and comments flying about what was up.
Private Roberts, from Toledo, Ohio, said, “About damn time I got off this Island.” He had been on Midway Island for almost two years, months before the war with Japan was declared.
Corporal Manning grumbled, “Our time has come sounds foreboding.”
The young Texan, Private Garcia, advised, “So it’s true. I heard it all on A Duty last night. We’re going to Guam for staging and then heading west.”
“West? West of Guam?” Corporal Manning just shook his head. “Foreboding hell. That’s down-right dangerous.”
The Gunny passed his hard eyes over each of his men in the Quonset hut. As those eyes passed over each successive Marine, they seemed to get sadder. He knew exactly where they were going. The 6th Marine Defense Battalion was slated to take part in Operation Cork; the invasion of Takao, Formosa.
Private Blake from Hermosa Beach, California quipped in his usual easy-going manner, "Hurry up and wait."
The Marines set forth to prepare the guns and all gear to be ready to fight.

Highlight for Today
A strong, warm breeze kicked up sand on the six-mile long Midway Island.
Col. Harold D. Shannon, a veteran of WW I, Nicaragua, Panama, and Hawaii, jolted with each bump and pothole the Navy jeep bounced over. He commanded the 6th Marine Defense Battalion consisting of 34 officers and 1,885 enlisted men.
The jeep slowed down as it passed five M-3 Stuart Light Tanks sporting their 37 mm anti-tank guns, affectionately dubbed “Honey” by their crews, and named after the Confederate General J. E. B. Stuart. The men had the tracks off the tanks; inspecting each link.
The Colonel gave a crisp salute to two Marines lumbering along the side of the road. Private Garcia wearing a straw cowboy hat and Corporal Manning didn’t return the salute. Garcia, from San Angelo, Texas was burdened with the 84-pound Browning M2 .50 caliber machine gun. Corporal Manning carried the 44- pound tripod. They were heading to the docks.
The jeep rumbled along until they reached one of the Mark 5”/51 caliber guns. Col. Shannon hopped-out of the jeep and with a straight back, walked up to Gunnery Sergeant Davis. The gun was partially dismantled. “What shape are the threads in, Gunny?” He was referring to the Welin Breach Lock.
After firing a sharp salute, the Gunny removed the unlit and chewed cigar stub from his teeth, answering, “Not bad, not bad. They’ll do, Sir.”
“Get her packed-up!”
“Will do, Sir.”
Private Blake, from Hermosa Beach, California rolled his eyes at Private Roberts from Toledo, Ohio.
“Something funny, Jarhead,” Col. Shannon asked with a grin bordering on an ass-kicking to be given.
Private Blake quickly raised his fingers to one eye, rubbed. “No Sir, damn sand in my eyes.”
Private Roberts tried to conceal a low chuckle.
“Sand in your eyes too, Leatherneck?”
“No Sir. In my throat.”

The heavily damaged BB Colorado arrived at Pearl Harbor. Considering the Allies expect to receive substantial damage to ships during the upcoming invasions of Takao, Formosa and Pescadores, I am considering sending the Colorado to Seattle.

1.) Japanese bombed Chungking.
2.) Japanese deliberately attacked near Tsuyung (hex 68,45). The battle was a tie with both sides receiving minimal casualties. The Chinese held their turf.
3.) Japanese deliberately attacked near Chengtu (hex 76,41) and crushed the Chinese. Japanese suffered minimal casualties and inflicted substantial losses on the Chinese forcing the 16th, 32nd, and 40th Chinese Corps' to surrender!

It only takes 3 days to pull Colorado out of the PH SY to send to the WCUSA, and any improvement in her damage state will help her make the journey. DO NOT let her upgrade in PH SY if you want to get her out again.

All this time my 16 SS at Lihue have awaited Pearl "Upgrades Off" Harbor to be clear of the riff-raff so they can upgrade, as well as the AG at Molo patiently in queue for conversion to AKE...

Those smaller ships can upgrade at places like Brisbane and Auckland - no need to wait a PH. And although they may need a SY to start the upgrade, they do not have to remain in the dock unless the upgrade include floatation damage. Just leave them in port with upgrade allowed, and at the end of the turn they start the upgrade. Then at the beginning of next turn change them to pierside and they will continue their upgrade with no change in timeline. I think this represents using the SY cranes and shops, but not the drydock.

Well, I was more or less grousing in jest...
These SS are an "upgrade shift" from MID, with WAKE survivors to follow anon; due to the cracking timetable of Rio's locomotive barreling down the track—in the form of operations STOCKPILE, BOTTLE & CORK—there is no time to shift them down south, and at any rate the Rabaul/Shortlands squadrons are using BRIS/SYD/MEL for such purposes.
However—just now—thinking about it—that's probably what I should have done immediately after the cessation of SEA SHARK: send everybody south, knowing PH was going to be occupied with more urgent matters.
In my defense I considered myself too banged up, and contemplated upgrades as a luxurious unlikelihood. My mistake.

El Lobo is moving troops out of Burma. However, rather surprisingly, it appears that he is not withdrawing them by sea, but rather marching them overland from Pegu. At this time, I don't know whether he is marching them south toward Mouliem or east toward China.

1.) Captain Haggard's SC-704 hits El Lobo's Submarine SS I-10 ten times off the coast of San Francisco.
2.) Two Japanese Infantry Divisions hammer the 12th and 35th Chinese Corps' near Chungking (hex 76,47 inflicting moderate casualties on the already beat-up Chinese while not suffering a single casualty to themselves. The 12th and 35th hold their turf.

Ship upgrades have been turned off for a few months now in order to be able to launch Operation Sea Shark and in anticipation of launching Operations Stockpile, Bottle, Cork, and John B. Hood. Accordingly, BB Colorado is not set to upgrade.
I had thought that once a ship is in the shipyard it can not be formed into a TF until the ship was fully repaired. If I am understanding you correctly, what you are advising is that I can put the Colorado into Shipyard Repair. When I need space in the Shipyard to repair damaged ships returning from Operations Stockpile, Bottle, Cork and John B. The Allies have delayed completing the August 8, 1943 turn as the Allies have been forming the Task Forces for the Operation Stockpile Fleet to turn the Marianas Islands into Pearl Harbor Number 2 and in preparation to launch Operations Bottle and Cork.
Synopsis of Combat Action for Today
1.) Japanese bombed Chungking.
2.) Japanese deliberately attacked near Chengtu destroying the 16th Chinese Corps without losing a single soldier.

Highlight for Today
Something was up for sure; something big.
Chief Petty Officer Malone lit a cigarette aboard the West Virginia. As the battleship headed out of Pearl he noticed how, seemingly of a sudden, the sleepy harbor had come to life. The 1st Calvary and 33rd Infantry Divisions were boarding transports along with a slew of artillery units, ant-aircraft units, and engineers of every sort. Aircraft and crates of supplies were being hoisted and loaded onto transports. The scuttlebutt indicated that Admiral Nimitz intended to sink the recently captured four southern Marianas Islands with troops, equipment, fuel and supply. The men jokingly referred to Guam as Pearl Harbor West. It was an impressive sight to view. His Task Force alone contained sixteen warships. By the looks of things, it appeared that hundreds of ships would soon be leaving Pearl. He took off his battle helmet and took out a photo. He smiled seeing his toddlers and wife, then frowned wondering if he would ever see them again. He field-stripped the cigarette, stuck the photo back into his helmet and the butt into his pocket, and got back to work.
Operation Stockpile flipped-off El Lobo.
Synopsis of Combat Events for Today
1.) Captain Haggard's PC Kimball and SC-635 pounded El Lobo's I-37 Submarine off the shore of Wake Island.
2.) Japanese deliberately bombed Chungking. The newspapers at home had grown bored with reporting the daily hammering of Chungking.
3.) Japanese deliberately attacked near Chungking and destroyed the 12th Chinese Corps. Only the 35th Chinese Corps remained to hold the position.
4.) Japanese deliberately attacked near Tsuyung. Brave Chinese beat them back with an onslaught of hurled rocks.
5.) Japanese deliberately attacked and captured Tuyun.
