A problem about Radar model

Post by BlueSky »

Just now, I made a simple test about the detection ability of E-2D. The test condition is: E-2D is loitered at 30000ft. A F-22A and a J-20 flight towards the E-2D at the same alititude at diffierent derection. My intention is to test the detection and identification distance. The result is J-20 is detected at 114nm, F-22A is detected at 158nm. While the front RCS is respectively -15.5dBsm and -21.4dBsm at A-D band. The result is not accordance with Radar equation. What's the problem? Could anynon give me a explaination about the Radar detection model?

What radar equation are you using? Could you post details please? What ranges are you getting? Thanks!

Hi,emsoy, thanks for your help. As we know, the standard RADAR equation tell us that the detection distance of a radar shiould be directly proportional to the 1/4 power of RCS-A/RCS-B. But the test result is incomprehensible. Why F-22A'RCS is smaller than J-20, but E-2D could detect F-22A more farther than J-20(repectively 158nm and 114 nm). I'm not sure if I make it clear.

Add some infomation

I think there is some mistake of my test. The latest test result is 215.6nm(J-20) and 199.2nm(F-22A). But it still does not conform to the scale. Could you give some explication of E-2D RADAR.

Probably you should run scores of this test. And use median values of detection ranges in order to check radar equation. Because this equation describe maximal detection range. So value of range can changed between running of tests.

Could you post your calcs here and I'll take a look using the Excel sheet we use (which runs the exact same code as the game).
