Use of air units in bad weather

Use of air units in bad weather

I totally understand why you can't attack hexes with bad weather, but moving air units around in bad weather is no problem. Would it be reasonable that an air unit that starts in a bad weather hex can attack a clear weather hex?

I agree, and why is the rebase range less then twice the strike range?

Well, if the ground crew can fill it up with fuel and it can re-base in poor weather I don't see why the crew can't stuff it full with bombs and ammo too.

Well, if the ground crew can fill it up with fuel and it can re-base in poor weather I don't see why the crew can't stuff it full with bombs and ammo too.

If that would be true, than the Allied Commanders didn't really cared about the war during the initial days of the Battle of the Bulge...

Maybe my initial post was unclear - what I suggested was taking off from bad weather hex to attack a clear weather hex, thus the initial days of the Bulge is out of the question.

Ok, thanks for explaining.

Funny thing is, that you can fly through bad weather zone to attack a clear weather hex.
So my uneducated guess is that it is not so easy to change the game engine to get the desired result.

The original implementation for air units was that after they had struck a target they were committed to that position.

In order to add some flexibility (player request) we allowed re-basing after a strike but at a reduced range so as to not go too overboard with air unit capabilities. For consistency, and to make this new flexibility practical, we allowed this re-basing even during bad weather as otherwise the re-basing seemed too restrictive, at least during the initial testing during of this new ability.

This is why the re-basing after a strike is at a shorter range and re-basing before a strike is at a range that is usually higher than the strike range as the only way to re-base in the past (other than an operation) was prior to a strike, but this then meant (and still means) that an air unit could not strike after the re-base. This was the tradeoff.

In terms of striking from a bad weather hex into a clear weather hex, from memory, this again simply goes back to the original implementation where strikes were simply not allowed when taking off from a bad weather hex.

We could consider changing this but we have to be careful to not make air units more powerful than they already are.
