Saved Build Points Usage

Post by adarbrauner »

Hello to all;
I came back playing after along interruption;

everything is working fine meanwhile, except that I still cannot understand when and how to add the saved building points to the overall production.

Cannot find the command in the phases and forms, nor clear explanation in the manual.

I'd appreciate info on this as well> Have not been able to crack it and makes "smart" production more difficult.

It should be on the production form as saved BP. On the right side.

Yes, MWIF calculates automatically the number of saved build points you can use this turn:

RAW:

In a later production step, you can remove those build points from
the map and add them to your build point total. You may spend any
number saved at your capital. No more than 1 saved build point may
be consumed per turn from each other city, useable factory and port
(e.g. you can spend 5 saved build points on production in New York
and unlimited in Moscow each turn).

Ok Peter, I remember that bit of the manual;

but how to do that?

how do you do that?

Boomerang:

I think that the saved BPs yu mentioned refer to the received build points by trade only.... I'm checking it better

It happens automatically for me.

The saved BPs are added to the BPs from the turn to permit a total number of BPs to use.

Pay attention during the Production Planning phases and watch for it (upper right corner of the page).

Yes, all that you can use are included in the total listed for production and what you don't use, you can save again.

What may be tricking you is this rule: "You may spend any number saved at your capital. No more than 1 saved build point may be consumed per turn from each other city, useable factory and port (e.g. you can spend 5 saved build points on production in New York and unlimited in Moscow each turn)." Of course there's a limit on what can be saved in capitals, so "unlimited" is misleading. So it depends how many are saved and where they are.

BTW in face-to-face and Vassal WiF games this is almost never a problem because you can transport saved BPs when you transport resources, so we never worried about it, assuming that any saved BPs desired for use would get automatically distributed to locations where they could be used. I can't recall if MWiF lets you transport saved BPs... I don't think it does. So the only solution is to try and save them according to the above limits, when they are first created.

I say "almost never a problem" because in some circumstances you could end up with pockets that are cut off from other locations where the BPs can be spent.

The program grabs all the saved build points possible (see the posts above for when some build points might not be available) and adds them to the major power's available build points. The player doesn't need to do anything to make that happen.

The logic is that if you want to continue saving build points, then it is easy enough to simply not spend some during the Production phase.

Yes Steve and others, confirmed, thank you. The player doesn't have to perform any particular action to use the saved points.

Pauldernick:

yes, you are very right sir, that's the rule (as written...) that confused me.
