OT: Rogue One

Post by Bullwinkle58 »

Heads up, but if you have Netflix and haven't seen the Star Wars movie, "Rogue One", it went live on Netflix a couple of days ago. Netflix is great for original content and classic TV, but often their movies are grade B at best. I read they signed a big distro deal with Disney and plan to upgrade some of their premium movie offerings. They've also gotten several recent Marvel Universe movies.

We had not seen R1, and watched it last night. Very good. We also saw "Doctor Strange" in the MU, as well as "Captain America: Civil War." Both on Netflix.

All you young whippersnappers know this stuff. I been searching for that red Netflix box and can't find it. I thought I had but some bloke stepped out of it and said it was his "tardis" whatever that is.

That's how the Dr. got some of his companions - by mistake. [8D]

Rogue One is one of the better Star Wars movies. GREAT stuff! The fight over Scariff and then that 45 second clip on the Dark Lord of Sith made the entire movie for me!

I really liked how they used CGI to overlay the 1977 faces on actors in a 2015 movie. Some of the squadron leaders in the fighters, the admiral (Peter Cushing?), and then one last shot of the Princess as we all remember her from then.

Little touches for the nerds like the "breadbox" droid in the hallway scenes of the data center.

A shame how it ended as I would have liked to see a lot more of the blind monk in future movies.

I actually quite liked it for the ending. Killing off the main characters in a Star Wars film doesn't happen much, so R1 ending as it did gave it a bit more emotional impact than "Oh, the good guys get away alive again".

I hate to break it to you Gorn, but that bloke zipping around in a red box is now a beautiful bird zipping around in a red box. The government is suppressing the video thereof, but eventually hackers will reveal all on this Netflix site. Give it a year or so.

I was a big fan of the series as a lad, and must have seen the original movie about 15 times. The first time we drove to San Francisco to see it in 70mm Dolby.

There are parts of this movie that drive me nuts. So, interstellar travel and advanced AI - no problems. But to find the Death Star plans you have to access the files with the same technology used to get little bears out of arcade machines - "the claw".

I hate to break it to you Gorn, but that bloke zipping around in a red box....

Careful BBfanboy, such careless disregard of detail is likely to lead to a lynching when the next sci fi convention is in town... [:D] [:D] [:D]

Cheers,
Reg.

I would have paid $10 in relevant currency to just see the last minute "one man army" thing. [8D]

Great movie, IMHO.

heh don't mess with the Star War Fans, or you will get jedi mind tricks. To me it was okay, wasn't crazy about it.

Still like Star Trek better though.
