crash when loading or saving game

Hello, I wonder if you can help me with a problem that I have encountered with Strategic Command.

I was running version 1.03 for months and all was fine. Then, when I went to load a game in an ongoing campaign I got a pop up which said:
FAILED (saved_game_dialog:set_lists): and I was then thrown back to the start menu. I tried several times and got the same message.

So I uninstalled and reinstalled the original download file (version 1.0). All seemed well with it and I could load and save games normally. Then I updated it (to 1.08) and immediately encountered the same problem as before. I can still start new campaigns but when I try to save, it crashes with the same message.

Can you suggest any way to resolve this as I would love to continue playing what is a great game.

Hi dsl109,

I would suggest manually going to your SAVE folder and removing all the older saves that no longer apply with the latest installed version and that should resolve the issue for you.

This folder is typically found here:

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Strategic Command WWII - War In Europe\Save

Thanks for the reply. I have deleted the saved games but unfortunately the problem persists.

When I start a new campaign and try to save the game at any point I get the error message and the game then reverts to the main menu. It makes the game unplayable unless one was to play an entire campaign without ever saving it!

Can you suggest anything else that I might try to resolve this? Everything else appears to be working normally.

Hi Dsl109,

I would suggest completely removing the SAVE and MULTIPLAYER folders by deleting them and try again. If it persists, I would suggest to try running the game as an Administrator by right clicking on the EXE or Desktop shortcut to see if that resolves it.

I would think that it should be resolved by either of these suggestions as it is either some older files that are still causing you a problem, or perhaps an OS permissions error of some sort.

Deleting the entire save directory has indeed resolved the problem.
