Artillery Ground Strike in Rain?

Post by rkr1958 »

The second die roll result, "105 mm die roll 3 failed to disorganize II Para." Is this a bug? My understanding is that weather doesn't effect; i.e., half, artillery bombarded factors like it does to air strike factors. In fact, the below form I think confirms this as it shows "Bombard: 3" for the unit. So, why isn't the German paratrooper corps disorganized with a roll of 3? Is this a bug?

Never mind. I found this in the RAC (page 159).

An artillery unit bombards an adjacent hex as if its printed combat factor were an aircraft’s tactical factor. So, it can execute a ground strike or a ground support (offensive or defensive) mission into that hex. Artillery gain the effects of surprise (see 15.0) and offensive chits in a land action (see 16.3). Its factors are affected by terrain and weather exactly like an aircraft’s tactical factors. Clarification: If both surprise and offensive HQ’s are used, a total of 3 dice are rolled (1 + 1 + 1).

So rain and snow do half the bombardment factors of an artillery unit.
