Atomic Bomb

Post by sad ham »

Hello, usually I continue to play until 1947. The last game I was playing as axis and, after conquering Russia and GB, I was launching a mass attack to United States and Canada. In 1945 I got the dialog box with the Hiroshima drop bomb event, but USA did not drop any bomb on me, and I did conquered it before the end of the game.
It is not logic. If USA had had the bomb, why don't use it on Germany too?

In a situation as described by you the Germans might have probably answered with Sarin-Attacks on US soil.
This would at least in your game be a valid explanation why the Allied AI didn't used the A-Bomb.

Have to agree with sad ham, it seems silly to play to 1947 with the Americans having the atom bomb. If the Germans
did invade America, I can see the Americans repeating the Tokyo raid, this time on Germany with the flying Fortresses all
loaded with atom bombs and don't worry, their planes had the ability to reach Germany.
The people I play with agree, that if there isn't a clear winner by the beginning of 1946, we call it a tie.

I think the USA had only two bombs, and no ability to make a third anytime soon.

We all know that the Americans had 2 & yes they enough material to produce 8(?) more...what isn't known & never revealed is how many they actually had made.
Bu, what we do know that the American Airforce dropped leaflets over 10 others cities advising them to evacuate, before being bombed. It may have been propaganda & probably was
but who knows?

Plans for more atomic attacks on Japan

Groves expected to have another atomic bomb ready for use on August 19, with three more in September
and a further three in October.[85] On August 10, he sent a memorandum to Marshall in which he wrote
that "the next bomb ... should be ready for delivery on the first suitable weather after 17 or 18 August."
On the same day, Marshall endorsed the memo with the comment, "It is not to be released over Japan without
express authority from the President."[85] Truman had secretly requested this on August 10.
This modified the previous order that the target cities were to be attacked with atomic bombs "as made ready".[230]

In my game France, GB and Russia collapsed before any allied put his feet european soil. Europe was never invaded, so that I doubt that USA had the possibility to create A-bomb before Germany.

ORIGINAL: Ice

don't worry, their planes had the ability to reach Germany.

If this single bomber or squadron would have had to cross the entire Atlantic (starting from an air field within the USA), large parts of german occupied Western Europe, it would have been difficult to hit Berlin. Not impossible, but still pretty difficult. With no bases within the UK these bombers would have probably have to fly even withoug fighter protection, into skies where ME 262 would be in charge to intercept american bomber raids.

So my guess would be that the USA would attack those regions or ports where the Axis would have started to prepare their american invasion.

I'm talkin about the game situation, not history. History is done. But every "what if" would lead to a different time line. Something that gets usually forgotten during discussions.

you are right, all of this is fantasy....but you forget the numerous American carriers, especially their cheap "jeep" carriers. Again, it would be a one way raid /raids with the planes flying onto Switzerland/Sweden or even Turkey, Just like they did in real life with the Tokyo raid & flying onto China.

In a game where the Germans are still in command in 1947; you got to wonder where their research towards that A-bomb might have been.

If you guys really want to know all there is about atomic bomb production go to this site: http://nuclearweaponarchive.org/Usa/Weapons/Allbombs.html

There were only 5 MK-I (Little Boy) bombs ever made. But the MK-III (Fat Man) had a large production run of 120. However, most of that production was from April 1947 through 1949.
