Public Beta v1.11.00 is Now Available!

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Found an issue with current beta. Soviet sapper squad '39 stops production 8/41,sapper squad '41 stops
production 9/41, sapper squad 42 STARTS 10/42...1 year with no sapper squad production. Looks like a typo
unless it's WAD(doubt it).

41-45 Bitter end scenario.

Just read the update notes,
Cut down Sapper squads in Soviet 1941/42 units - they did not employ specialist/offensive Engineers similar to german Pioneer squads until late 1942/early 1943
.

I guess "cut down" means eliminated as far as sappers are concerned. So i get nothing until 10/42..right?

I think you have stumbled on to one of the great recent controversies. There have been quite a lot of conversations on these threads not too long ago about sappers. This also concerns their not doing a lot of what many thought they did. I have not got the link to hand but searching these forums, or perhaps a currently engaged Soviet player, can point out these threads as they are probably worth your reading them given your interest here.

Do we have any guesstimate of when the next patch is likely to be out ?

Soars high above the clouds;
Meanwhile, the nightingale intones
With sweet, mellifluous sounds.
Enough of Stalin, Freedom for the Ukraine !

Urgh, that Sapper issue must have slipped through. forgot to change the endyear back to 42.
Anyway soviet organization had mostly construction engineers in units to build fortification but not Pionier-like offensive specialists. That changed mid/late 42 with large invests in specialist training and unit formation which resulted in the Assault Engineer Sapper Brigades.

The next patch is almost finalized data-wise but may require some additional code changes + weeks of testruns. Once this is done without issues it gets sent to the publisher via 2by3 games for their testing and installer builds.

Changes: Several bugs fixed (code+data), many improvements to the german translation (code overhaul+data), 2 new soviet flame tanks, 2 new soviet recon aircraft and many other changes

The download link doesn't work for me [:(]

I can get to the link on the members section for registered games but each time I try to down load it comes up with "can't reach this page".

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I had no response to this query on this forum so I contacted Matrix support.

They resolved the issue very quickly. Many thanks to Matrix !

If anybody else is having this problem it may be an issue with your browser. Apparently the download doesn't work with some browsers. In my case the culprit was Microsoft Edge the browser that comes with Windows 10. I changed to Chrome and the download worked.

Hi,

As I noted in another thread, new to forum, longtime GG fan.

Been playing WITE for 3 weeks, 2 on Beta.

A) I had to uninstall and reinstall from Steam due to numerous Editor issues with Beta version.
For some odd reason had wrong planes and numerous mixed up plane issues (officer I didn't do it, honest).

I just can't figure out how to re-enable the Beta version.
[Note: Had a Brain Injury a few years back and sometimes I just cannot remember the simplest steps or how to repeat something done in the recent past. So please be patient if I have odd dumb question.]

B) And any reason why using 'Save Generic Data' in Editor, after using 'Load Generic Data' saves TOE changes and also Not Unit / Air Group revisions or additions??
Although changes / additions to Ground Elem (but Not Pool #s), and Aircraft seem ok.

But like my teenage son states, on a good day I know more about Axis weapons and units than most can remember.
Guess its just natural that as a well published defence writer, not one of those ill informed reporters, my hobby is WW2 Axis details (I just soak it up, and am OBSESSIVE about correcting errors before I can be satisfied with how a campaign will play out, same with WinSPWWII corrections) ever since I was a kid.
I keep more WW2 data research books on hand than most libraries.
And yes, still love AH / SPI WWII boardgames, I know ... a dying breed.
Computers, well ... this old dog says meh.

Can somebody help me with both A) the Steam Beta re-enable / disable and B) the Editor issues?

Thanks.

Regards, Mark

Hi, Mark!

A) You have to right click game title in your Steam library, select Properties from context menu, and navigate to BETAS tab. There, you will have the option to select Public Beta update channel. Please verify local game files (LOCAL FILES tab) to ensure you have all files in correct versions.
B) Generic data is only for ground elements, devices, aircraft models, TOE(OB) and leaders. Locations, units, air groups and pools are part of scenario data, and they must correctly reference generic data elements. Therefore you have to be very careful when editing generic data (all links are index-based, so if an index of an element changes you will get errors in all scenarios), it's best not to change or move anything existing, just use empty slots to add your new data. If you want to alter a specific unit or air group, you have to do it in all scenarios.

As generic data is overwritten with every new patch, it's best to focus on custom scenarios only, or experiment with locking generic data inside scenarios (so that all data becomes part of given scenario and will no longer be updated from generic data on new game start).

Hi morvael,

A) Tried that, no joy :(

I get a Highlighted 'NONE - Opt out of all beta programs' that I just cannot get to switch ??
Fairly sure it worked first time, or is there something basic im missing?
Is there a beta access code I now require?

As to B) I'm only adding new units in open slots, though from what I remember seeing I need to check the campaign slots first as some are not so open.
The Pz-38t(E) (Slo) as a prime example - not in Generic, but does exist in Campaign.
So I guess best to go thru and make a comparison list as to differences / omissions between varied lists.
And I'm guessing that equipment Pool numbers ground/air can only be entered and retained in scenarios?

And no idea how to 'Lock' generic data inside a scenario m8.

Although, WITE DEVS TAKE NOTE,
looks like some Generic Data is either Missing or Incorrect.
Ref also my II.(Sch)/LG2 post for some noted inconsistencies.

Second item on the drop down list should be "beta", you don't need a code to join.

Pool numbers are indeed part of scenario data, not generic data.

As for the air groups - ignore their setup in generic data. Most important scenario is Campaign 1941-1945, I'd look there for reference.

Finally solved the beta issue. Had a DoH moment haha.
Because I would open properties while game was still open, even shutting game down after it would not bring up second dropdown for beta.
So, closed game, closed properties window in steam and reopened properties and voilla - gave me 2nd choice for beta.
Don't you just love technological quirks. [8|]

And hey, Canadian passports are so easy to forge that they feature as the goto choice in most movies nowadays lol. [:'(]
