new to the forum/laptop advice

hi all, ive just bought ggwitw...but dont want to load the game in until i get a new laptop,i wanted advice as to which laptop to get and had a link to post ..but because i have just joined the forums it wont let me post a link as to which one to get any ideas how i can post the link to get advice ?

nice bit of kit and a good price, unless you travel alot, i'd still go for a desktop myself, cooler, more power and most of the time will last you longer, but yes can also cost about the same or more, as you'd need a monitor as well, so added cost, but will be fine, i'd like a larger screen tbh, but beggars can't by chooses

regarding spec and running game, yes will be more than powerful enough to run it at max

I'll assume that like me, you have your reasons for needing a laptop with "desktop substitute" processing and graphics power.

See this Matrix thread... no doubt by now the current model numbers have moved on and changed but the basic situation has remained the same.


Be sure to use TomsHardware to help you make a choice, but be sure to have your geek hat on when you go, it can be heavy going.

For a little more than you're currently thinking of spending, you can get an NVidia 1060 or 1070 card onboard and run almost anything you might want.

I wound up with an Asus ROG Strix GL702VM-DB71, no longer available but useful to give you an idea of what you might want to shoot for. I wound up rejecting MSI candidates because of posts I kept finding that complained about overheating and general stability issues. Lots of people here love their MSI boxes, so do go to TomsHardware and see what people are saying lately. The Asus I wound up buying might be more than you need but whatever you wind up with, having a little more than you need isn't a bad idea when it comes to computing in general and gaming in particular.

The good news is that there are quite a few great options out there... study up and do be sure to share with us how things turn out. The experiences fellow Matrix gamers are having with their hardware is the most valuable data we can possibly have.

I have an ASUS ROG gaming desktop with high-end NVIDIA graphics But I decide I wanted a laptop too.

So after about a month's worth of research I decided on an ACER Predator 15 with 1070 graphics card. My main
criteria was a laptop that would run cool. I didn't want to have to worry about heat being an issue.
And this definitely runs cool.

IT weighs in at 8 pounds and really isn't in the portable class because the battery run time
isn't great, but I knew that before I bought it. And I don't care about battery time.

It is a good system and will run just about any game on ultra settings.

WiTW isn't a game you have to worry about as long as you get a better than average machine.

I'm planning on running the new Call of Duty game that comes out in November on it.

windows 10, or all windows versions tbh have an habit of once it knows its on a laptop, and desktop for that matter to install and limit not only the cpu, but overall speed as it's trying it's best to save the planet and burn less tree's etc and goes and installs and set up all kinds of power saving features that tbh when gaming you just don't want, regarding over heating, adding in a gaming card into a laptop does 2 things, high heat and low battery use, so kind of pain at times, so like a desktop you need to manually alter a few settings to tweak the laptop and desktop for that matter to use more power and also make more heat, as why have a fast car then don't start the engine and get out and push it, you want full power and as much as you want when you want it, so plug it in, and get some better cooling, plenty of off the shelf options for this, laptop coolers are common and much cheaper now days, but defeats most of the reasons for having one, as no battery life means not much time on the road without power in this mode, and on your lap, make sure you have flame proof pants on[:D]
