fighter sea intercept

Post by IBender »

I dont recall the exact part of the turn this occurs in, but basically the english ships catch my ships bay of biscay and there is a part where I can toss in fighters to help my side of the fight. I have positioned the fw 190 with range of 9 at Brest thinking it would be super helpful with this, but...it is not. With range of 9 it will enter the 1 box and I dont find that helpful...infact its confusing. Why is it entering the 1 box with a range of 9?

Thanks

Planes that react to a naval battle (versus flying out during the naval air phase) do so at half their range.

The FW 190 has 6 in range. Not 9. And when they react the range is halved to 3, therefore it can only reach the 1 box. However, if you actively flew the FW 190 to the sea area then it would have the full 6 range and reach the 2-box.

yes I was wrong about range of 9 thanks for pointing it out. However help me with the counting of spaces. Reacting is half range. Therefore its range is 3. 1 to move to 0 sea box, 2 to 1 box, 3 to the 2 box. Clearly I am counting wrong on this even. How does it actually go?

You take the range remaining after you fly to a hex dot in the sea area you wish put the plane.

0. If you have 0 movement points left after flying to a hex dot you can only go to the 0-box.

1. If you have at least 1 movement point left you can go to either the 0 or 1 box (i.e., 0+1 = 1).

2. To get to the two box you have to have 3 or more movement points left (i.e., 0+1+2 = 3).

3. To get to the three box you have to have at least 6 movement points left (i.e., 0+1+2+3 = 6).

4. And finally to get to the four box you have to have 0+1+2+3+4, or at least 10 movement points left.

This is covered on page 44 of the "Rules as Coded" volume.

In your case it takes one movement point to fly from Brest to a hex dot in the Bay of Biscay leaving 2 movement points, which is enough to only get you to the 1 box or lower.
