Thanks Aurorus. One of the more subtle aspects of the game.

Question

How important is preparation (Set Future Objective)?

I am concerning a counter-invasion of Tinian and/or Rota. I can muster six IDs and support but I would not have time to fully prep them. For example, would five IDs not prepped be equivalent to four IDs prepped?

Thanks.

Depends on the prep level the more the better. Low prep means more casualties, more disablement and disruption upon landing. Think of it this way you have troops at different locations who have no practiced a landing who were probably not properly combat loaded landing on a hostile beach they know little about. It is a plan for a disaster. The higher the prep the less those factors affect the landing troops.

Prep is a big deal, BUT for your reaction forces you can only guess and assume that they won't be. What I do is prep one unit for each objective in my reaction force. That way at least one unit is prepped. What you have to plan for is that you are able to disable/disorganize the opponent more than you are when you assault ... it also means that you really need overwhelming force. AKA bring the HAMMER.

If the defenders are disabled heavily and weak then you can go in with infantry with 25 prep. If the defenders aren't heavily disabled and moderately strong then you need 75.

Rule of thumb.

Allied sig int will give warning at some point most likely.

Thanks All.

If I were an experienced player I probably would have done this by now but I think the window of opportunity is closing. I don't want the real estate but perhaps this was a chance to kill some Allied troops.

I will keep massing my troops and hope another opportunity rises.

If you cannot take all 4 islands ... I would reconsider. The issue is that if he owns the air, those units are stranded ...

I adjusted some setting and got better results. The screen-shot went by too fast and I missed a capture of the Essex attack, it but it was pretty.

I have all of my Es at Pagen taking turns trying to get inside the Fleet but so far they have all been intercepted on the way. A lot of small Naval engagements like this. I am losing a Sub a day so will soon be out of them.

by far and away the most powerful use of IJN naval bombers, and also a reason for the Peggy T as you can really mine high experience army pilots in China and convert them to night Peggy T duty. It takes a dedicated JFB to get those IJN pilots to 90 in China and then use strictly for night work. Most lack the discipline and try for the daytime attacks in heavy CAP.

This is a great solution to the marauding deathstar mid to mid late game.

PACIFIC Sept 7, 1943 Turn 641

I only have one Nell unit with some pilots with experience over eighty. The rest of the units are in the high seventies.

More of the same but the Jakes are not to be left-out.

PACIFIC Sept 9, 1943 Turn 641

Lost these two stragglers from a Bombardment TF. Hummm .... I wonder why. The Bombardment TF did not reach Guam as it ran into similar resistance.
