FAILED(draw_map_on_mini_map_overlay_surface)

Post by PIfOS »

Hi,
everytime i try to load my custom campaign i'll get this Message. The only thing i've done so far,
is to save the original Campaign as a custom Campaign and tried to load it. There are no other changes. Dxdiag.txt attached.

Help anyone?

Hi PIfOS,

Can you tell me which version of the game you are running and which version of the Editor?

If you aren't currently using the latest v1.08 official patch I would suggest trying that to see if that resolves it and if not then we can take it from there.

It's the latest version (steam). I also tried the beta patch over steam. Same issue.

Can you navigate to the following folder, replace <username> with your own name, and then locate the subfolder for the custom campaign you created, inside there should be a file called 'campaign.ini'.

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Strategic Command WWII - War In Europe\Campaigns

If you open this file and change the following lines to this, then save the file, relaunch the game and the campaign, could you let me know if it resolves the issue for you?

#CUSTOM_BITMAPS= 0
#CUSTOM_INTERFACE= 0

Nice try, but unfortunately that didn't solve the problem.

I suspect a permissions/access denied error is occuring that is not allowing you to properly load the mod file on your end.

If you have a chance, please take a look at the following article and more specifically the "Issue 1" link.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/hel ... -files-and

Perhaps an OS setting change as described in the article to the user Campaigns folder where your mod resides, or the mod subfolder itself will help to resolve this for you.

Your mods will be saved in the following folder:

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Strategic Command WWII - War In Europe

I had a look at the permissions but everything seems fine. I'm also logged in admin.
This is not the problem.
I have tried other mods but the error stays the same in addition with this:

"FAILED(draw_operational_management_panel_to_buffer)" [&:]

Short Update:

I deleted mini_map.png in

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Strategic Command WWII - War In Europe\<modname>\Interface

and now it loads without ctd. The only "negative" effect is that the minimap ingame now only shows the national colours.

Hi PIfOS,

The issue is an anomaly as there have been a few reports of similar issues and my best guess is something configuration related on your system regarding possible permissions or perhaps the User Access Control settings. It could even be Anti-Virus software related.

Reason being is that mods and any other custom campaigns can load perfectly fine on most other systems, including the test systems I run on my end, but for whatever reason there is this rare issue where some players are unable to have the game load image files from the Windows User folder at runtime.

Either way, and although not an ideal solution, just glad to hear you have it working on your end for now,
Hubert
