OT: (for half the game anyway) World In Flames

Post by warspite1 »

For those that don't know, the final ever version of Australian Design Group's World In Flames (greatest. game. ever. made. FACT) is coming out in the autumn.

For those that never got to play the game, but like board games, buying this is simply not an option. Even if, like me, the chances are you will never get to play the board version again (lack of space, lack of time, poor eyesight or whatever) this game still needs to be bought. Even if you can't play the game you can still spend quality time lovingly caressing the beautiful counters, fondling the fighters, slavering over the ships and.... well you get the picture.

The Collectors Edition contains 4,800 counters. Every ship of light cruiser and above, all the planes, the armies, the most famous generals are all here - what-if counters too. Hard board mounted maps - I'm coming over quite unnecessary at the mere thought... If you are serious about WWII, about games, and want something sexy to pore over on those long winter evenings then this is a must buy.

Is it really any more "over the top" than SPI's War in Europe? The map here looks dinky compared to War in E. This game is offered on computer too isn't it? ...but with no AI?

Sorry, what do you mean by 'over the top' please?

Yes, the computer games used the V.7 rules and counters. This final version v.8 (unsurprisingly [:)]) uses different counters, maps and some different rules too.

No seriously GP, that is not an answer. If you answered yes to those questions I asked then you have to buy this. Lack of money so to do is simply not an acceptable excuse.

Haven't you got family members you could send out to work or perhaps sell? You need to start from the basis that "I will buy this game" and then back-solve from there. No idea or action to reach that goal is too extreme or should be considered 'off the table' - all options are open.

"Over the top"....superior, top drawer, exotic, way better than average,...

Have you played this game? I used to play the monsters like War in Europe many years ago.

I devoted two years of my life to this game back in the day - v.5 as it was then. Superior? Oh Yes. I played AH Third Reich and SPI's ETO and PTO. Believe me, this game knocks them out of the ring. Not even close.

Yes but Grafin, we are talking World In Flames. Your son just needs to be kept out of the way until he is old enough to play himself, at which point he will go down on his knees and thank his lucky stars that he has a mum that bought this game (I'm sure he thinks that anyway [:)] but the game simply seals the deal).

As for your husband. I don't understand your answer. He doesn't like World In Flames? Its Bye Bye time - exit visas should be imminent....

Orm not you as well?!?!?!?!? What is going on here????

I mean when one thinks about money and whether one has enough there are the essentials of life - water, a basic subsistence diet, World In Flames. The rest is mere window dressing......

Indeed. And books.

And I fear that if I buy this game then I will not be able to buy a new book for the rest of my life. Although it might very well be that it is not as bad as I imagine.

And I already have several versions of WIF that I do not play with.
