Big scenarios.

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Big scenarios.

Post by sztartur2 »

Hi!

Do you play the big scenarios? Big scenario means 240X100 hex and 40-60 turns.

I have some good maps and information about an interesting operation, and I am considering to make one such scenario, but first I would like to know what the community thinks of scenarios with that size.

Please post what you think.

Artur.

I find that I just don't have the time available for really big ones. I'm playing a M4 Jess 60 turn monster right now and it's all I can handle. (barely).

They can be alot of fun to play, but they also can take up alot of time to. Especially when you pick and setup your forces.:)

I ONLY play big @ss scenarios thus far.. online that is.. The only shorter scenario I played was against Jim1954 here.. And even that lasted well over 15 turns.

Right now I am in two PBEMs (60 turns and 40 turns I believe), including my very first PBEM!!

Cyr, wait till you get hooked on megacampaigns! :D

Then you have 40 to 60 battle experiences. Most don't go over 20 to 25 turns (max) but at least you can have fast artillery on with no detriment.

Big scenarios usually translate into LOONNGG vcr replays, which you don't have to do on the MC's.

If done well I love them, they give you plenty of time to make up for mistakes. I look at it as a mini-campaign all rolled into the same battle. I love playing some of Jess's oversized battles.:D

AS a rule I avoid them. I think most wargamers except for this fanatical group on the forum honestly prefer a quickie (careful!) before supper or bedtime.

I tend to lose interest in large scenarios after 15 turns.

I would say I would play one large scenario for every 10-15 of the smaller variety.

Jim has touched a valid point. In the Mega Campaign, which most likely will keep you occupied for a number of weeks, you'll find the following ratio.

Small (less than 75 units) 40%
medium (less than 120 units) 40%
Large (more than 120 units) about 20%

The smaller ones you can play in an hour or less. Don't think, however, for one minute that they don't offer a challenge. To the contrary, my friend!

I only play on the 100x240 only PBEM. I like to purchase my own stuff. Usually only 25 to 30 turns. Loosing an entire rifle coy is not uncommon. Highly recommend it. I am just waiting for the new H2Hfr to come online.

Hey Jack are we playing one of those ? I think the game may have gotten lost in the shuffel, if you have it I would like to continue, or we can start a new one

Big scenarios is like taking more than a hour with your wife while playing. Suuuuuuuure you are having fun, but the next day you have to pay for it :) :)

Of course quick means you are in shape for more playing sooner :) :)
I LIKE that my life bothers them,
Why should I be the only one bothered by it eh.

Thank you guys for the answers.

As far as I see the results and replies, it seems that people like big scenarios, if they are done well. However many of them are not playing them too often. (I can understand that because that takes horrible amount of time.)

If I will have the time I will do that scenario(s) in the new H2H.

Thanks again, Artur.
