Well, that's the last time I try placing the Polish air force where it might be able to intervene. I've just been searching for them on the map and they were over-ran. Forgot about surprise impulse over-runs being automatic destruction, rather than a rebase [:(].

Not sure where I could have placed them that wouldn't have either been ground struck (Warsaw and Lodz) or on easily destroyed single unit stacks.

I think it's something only to consider if the Germans are going for a full Fall Gelb, heavy in the west and minimal forces in Poland.

Oh well, live and learn.

UK vs Nordic 1

Germany will be doing a land move to invade Denmark and move units from Poland west.

Do you want to play the impulse through to German land movement as no naval or air missions from me.

Sure. I suspect it won't be until Saturday evening - or possibly Sunday morning but happy to do so as soon as I am able. So nothing at all for the Germans until land moves?

On second thoughts, send the Bf-110 to the North Sea 2-box. Germany shouldn't be able to initiate combat with a land move chosen but if the Allies do, add the NAV to the 2-box.

Not sure how you feel about this but if Italy were to DoW the Allies, you could put a nice little port strike on that TRANS with Wavell and sortie the fleet to have a go at the CW forces in the West Med.

If it works it's great but at the 70% chance of giving the Allies another probably good US Entry chit. Next impulse, CW and French fleets would likely sortie to seek retribution and attrition the Italian navy. The positive side of that is it would limit the land moves available to start getting the defence along the French-Belgium border established (all delay is good) but a good search roll split would be curtains for a reasonable proportion of your navy.

I'm happy with whichever way you call it (i.e. can't make up my mind. Isn't decisiveness wonderful?).

CW is going for Combined (as is US). China land.

Naval moves

CW move Wavell to Bayonne. Queens take INF to Red Sea 0-box.

US moves HQ, AA gun and FTR to a sea zone adjacent to Pearl ready for disembarking later.

Air missions

Hampden ground strikes the stack on the Danish border. It’ll have to be at extended range (got that part of set-up wrong). Send the Battle to ground strike the stack on the Dutch border with the NAV, FTR and INF Div.

Land moves

CW - The two Polish units outside Lodz each will move 1 hex to be adjacent to Lodz. Disembark INF in Red Sea to Suez.

US – Disembark all units to Pearl.

I’ll need to see about China.

AllenK - the TRS does not reach Bayonne. I can get to the sea area, but of course then the TRS is unprotected and Wavell has to risk staying at sea.

Japanese orders - impulse 3

Debark: Imperial Guard and Tokyo MIL to Wenchow.
Land Combat: Attack the MIL north of Wenchow. If successful the three units in Wenchow move into the hex. Losses are INF DIV and Shangha Warlord in that order.
Re-base: Fighters move to (76,141) and (83,147)

No disaster in China with the attack but that Nationalist CAV may be causing problems next impulse. I think it might be able to make Nanking.

A CAV is already moving northwards and I'll start an INF heading that way too. Can't spare much else until I see where the units at sea are going to disembark. I suspect to Yamamoto.

I say, old chap.

It would appear it is down to us to keep the jolly old show on the road in both of the UK vs Nordic games.

Do you have any inclinations for the Japanese and Italians in Nordic 1 and Les Francais, the Soviets and Communists in Nordic 2?

In Nordic 1, the Germans are considering whether to sacrifice what's left of the navy to have a bash at the BEF and especially Gort while at sea. The rest is moving units to the west.

In Nordic 2, it will be China as discussed and moving BEF and other units to more productive locations.

The Japanese will do a land. I just don't know what to do about the Italians and when to bring them in. Do you have a preference? If they come in then I need lots of oil and resources (2+3 respectively) how do you feel about that? Let me know on your preferred timing and what you can spare if they come in - and I will look at some spiffing wheezes and cunning plans.

With the Allies I'll have to give this some thought too. The Japanese got very lucky not being disorganised and are so strong in the north that the ChiComms are in trouble - I have been in this situation before with Ormster as the Japanese. I think the Soviet plans in Persia will need subordinating, probably until the New Year depending on what happens. The French will probably take a land but could even pass if that helps any.

Not sure if the Germans can afford 2 oil but certainly 3 resources. Will look at spending requirements. I'll look at strategic situation and see whether an Italian DoW would be advantageous.

The Nationalists will begin shifting units northwards to try and secure the Communists southern flank. I agree regarding Soviets. Freedom of movement for the ChiComms is most important. I think the French will need land moves to get the line along the Belgium border ready.

So what levels of assistance has Germany provided Italy in your other games with Mayhemizer? In the reverse game the Germans are providing 2 (oil) + 3 (Resources) - which is where I got the request number from, but I don't really have much experience of oil.

It started with 4 BP and 1 oil but the aim there was for Italy to save the BP and build the SYNTH. That ran into the problem with getting the Libyan SYNTH and the fix we had to make there.

It's generally been 3 resources/BP's plus an oil.

If we don't want the hassle of trying to work around the Italian SYNTH's, the only other option I can think of is not trade any BP's/resources at first (still an oil) then build the 1st German SYNTH to send the oil to Italy.

What would you prefer. Units immediately or more oil in the future?

Regarding the DoW, the chance to port strike the TRANS has gone. You could still sail out the navy and have a bash at the CVL and couple of escorts. On land, there's the opportunity for a speculative 2:1 attack on one of the 3-3 INF's on the border. If it works and the Italians start pushing up from the south it forces the French to divert units. Germany isn't yet in position though. Probably not worth DoW'ing just yet unless you want a go at the CVL. With the US likely to get better entry chits in '39 and the naval combat needing the luck of the dice, it's probably not worth it yet.

I just want to make sure that the Italians can receive enough from Germany to function. I am not declaring war this impulse - and not likely to be soon* (but please keep the MTN where it is if you can spare it). If you think one oil is sufficient then fine. Why not build a synth early? The Japanese are doing a land.

Do you want me to do the first part or do you want to do it?

*I am keeping a look out for opportunities so this may change [;)].

You could do the first part.

Germany takes a combined. No naval air. I'm not going to try a likely heroic but futile sortie into the North Sea. Instead there's some house cleaning needed in the Baltic. Send the Gneissenau and 2 CA's to the highest box they can get to and try for naval combat. Once that CA is out of the way, I can put out the CP's.

Rail 150mm from Lodz to Aachen. Can you send the file back to me for land moves?
