RE: September 1942

I have 60 PP per turn, in 1942, an infantry corps cost 20pp, a tank corps cost 20pp+XP reduction, a cavalry corps cost 5pp, a mechanized corps 20pp+XP reduction.
If we take into account the price of sub-elements :
Tank corps, mechanized corps and cavalry corps cost 35PP in 1942, but infantry corps cost minimum 45.
In 1943, infantry corps will cost 35 as other corps.
So in theory, to answer your question, in 1942 i could create 3 infantry, mechanized or tank corps per turn if i use existing divisions/brigades and do nothing else with my PP.

Thank you for your answer .
September 1942
Turn 66, 17th september 1942
We are now in the second part of september and time of fast advance in the Caucasus is over. But we maintain some pressure.
We begin to clear Tuapse and our troops are now ready for the offensive against Crimea.

Some progress in eastern Caucasus. Very surprised not to be facing a single rifle corps yet. They could easily block such a bottleneck.

Lake Elton is reached, Stalingrad is 40 miles behind the frontline!

Nothing decisive near Saratov. I failed to achieve an encirclement.

3 weeks before mud. No more time to lose to clear the black sea coast
In Crimea, I'm rather Lucky. Against a rifle corps, I wouldn't have been able to break the frontline.

The first attempt to take Tuapse failed but fort level is now below 1.

Progress is more and more difficult in eastern Caucasus. I really don't like the 90 defensive CV....

Some weak mobile units crossed the lower Volga, they had to retreat ... 3 tank corps against a romanian div....

We continue to progress north east of Stalingrad

I'm not strong enough to earn more ground in front of Saratov

September is over, weather begins to be less sunny...
In crimea, great surprise! our troops met a new annoying soviet unit: a rifle corps. Dig in in woods with level 4 forts... hard nut!
We don't have enough inf units in this area to force it to retreat. Sevastopol won't be taken soon.

Slow progress in eastern Caucasus.

Tank fights east of Stalingrad. We have identified the 32nd russian tank corps. No rifle corps means lots of tank corps. I wonder how is Stelteck truck pool right now...

Usual non decisive fights around Saratov.

I was forced to create a handfull of rifle corps to defend sebastopol&cie although i did not like. Congratulation.
I can tell the truck situation i do not think it is so important to be kept secret.
I'am still in positive truck situation (but barely) at the time of the AAR. But i expect the mud and the winter to destroy a lots of truck and put me in negative.
But i also have great hope in the new truck supply from the united states starting beginning of 1943.

Send your air force to reserve (ones you don't need) and put units in static mode to save on trucks if you are that worried during mud and winter. Like I have always said trucks are something you nurture from the first counter moved as a Soviet turn 1. You can "never" have too many.

hahahahhahahahahahaaha, Stef you made me laugh so hard when I read this
I see Stelteck is getting off of his "cheap" binge on AP's. I understand where he is coming from but losing key areas is worse than the few points spent on AP's on Rifle Corps used to stop losing these areas.
RE: October 1942
i really like this game. so much action, attacks and counter attacks and a lot of hot spots along the entire southern front.
RE: October 1942
I'd like to add to bigbaba's comments. I've been following silently but there have been some real nail biting turns and an incredible scenario as the Soviets hold on to a thin ring from Crimea to Baku, and the Axis within as little as 10 miles everywhere but just on the edge of logistics.
One question - has there ever been a person versus person game, ideally with an AAR, that has ever taken Baku?

Yes, there are some AARs that people have taken Baku. (Sorry but I think I have read every single AAR there is... Yes I know, no life)

Can you help us find it. I know it is an unfair question as they are the things you read ages ago and cannot remember where. I have gone through quite a few old AARs. For example I did a through search for all the Team game ones. I have done searches with posts older than 365 days. But never found a Baku conquest. I was going to post you rather than hijack this forum thread. But I imagine others would want to find it too and it would be a relevant comparison to this thread.

I dont' have the time to go find them. Plus some have probably been deleted since I'm pretty sure Pelton had at least one himself as I recall(if not more). I know there were a few other games where the Germans were lining up on the East side of the map with nothing in the south. I will digress from there since I really don't have time to go diving for info at the moment
RE: October 1942
I don't think it matters .. Baku > 1.08 and after might just be two separate animals.

RE: October 1942
True enough. I am just wondering then if it ever would be possible now to get Baku? I know you can get the Western Caucasus, and isolate and force auto-surrender surrounded units down there. And get to Astrakhan. But that final corner? If impossible, and even if you are playing for points, Stef78 would have been better off doing something else that would damage the Soviets more. It is also a more general question for others - what is the best 1942 strategy.

Sillyflower vs Brian is the only game I can think of where a good player lost Baku.has there ever been a person versus person game, ideally with an AAR, that has ever taken Baku?
I believe it's always been virtually impossible vs best play. The Soviet player needs to either make a mistake, underestimate the strategic importance of holding Baku or be beaten already.I am just wondering then if it ever would be possible now to get Baku?

42 can be a pain for the Germans. But if your 41 campaign was manpower centers then continue on that front while continuing the elimination of counters to force them to be reborn while going after those centers. Manpower is the crux of the Soviets imo.

Perhaps at the end of the game both you and Stelteck might be able to do a retrospective on how feasible it is in the current version?

The true question is, "How long will you be able to hold onto it once you capture it"? In an equally match campaign scenerio of skill the German is going to be "way" out of position if he hasn't put a serious smackdown on the Soviet player imo.
