News from the South Pacific and all points at sea:
Flash:
Last night Kota Bhura was given the treatment of a naval
bombardment by CL Sendai and escorts. There were 89 Allied
ground losses without any hits on the Jap ships.

Also: There were landings at Guam and Wake and a 1/2 a
dozen other places. I'll report them later on below.

Also: On the river near Nanking two Allied PG's (Wake RGC,
and RN Peterel RGB ) nearly cornered the xAKL RGC Yangtze 15
and they closed to 2,000 yards before Allied commander
E. Higgins ordered a disengagement and let him go free into
the night.

Allied sub S-27 was sighted by Jap PB Fuji Maru #4 and ran
a pattern of DC's so thick that he ran out of ammo and the
sub appearantly got away. I'll send 'em an email.

Jap sub I-124 was ordered to patrol the Bataan hex and
remain on station and no sooner did he get there than
he sghted Allied PG Asheville and put two TT's in it.
It was on fire and heavily damaged to say the least.
The only bad thing about the whole adventure was that
he fired 4 TT's and 2 of them missed. But TT's are
a lot cheaper than a PG.

Japanese Midget Sub SSX Ha-22 had a scarey moment last
night. He had been inactive for the most part waiting
for the oppertune moment since 7Dec and he just happened
to be sighted by DD Allen and DMS Trevor and they hunted
around a long time but soon abandoned the search. You
had to be there to understand what I mean. And almost
immediately after that encounter he was sighted by
AMc Condor but he bottomed out and the Allied ship went
away.

Two transports, xAKLs, Hitora Maru and Higari Maru made
landings at Hollandia without any escorts at all but
only 2 coastal gun shots were fired so maybe they will
be okie dokie.

APD IJA Hakaze and AMC Saigon Maru made landings at Kuching
on the north coast of Borneo near Singkawang and they were
fired upon with vigor. AMC Saigon Maru fired back but neither
ships got hit. One vehicle was lost in the landing. A truck
with a support section.

Just SW of Nanking, early this morning as the sun was coming
up a Jap SCTF including 3 CA's and 2 TB's and a PG sighted
and chased down an Allied TF of go PG's and sank them both.
They were PG Wake with 3 shell hits and PG Peterel with 4 shell
hits.

Later this morning 12 Betty's decided to attack Singapore in
daylight unescorted and were met by at least 48 Buffalo's and
got chewed up. The mission was chased away from Singapore and
lost 5 bombers before they got away. Lesson learned.

And then 38 Nells escorted by 101 Zeros struck Clark AFB where
they were met by 12 P-35A's and 15 P-40B's. 7 Zero's were
destroyed but the flight got through the CAP and got 11 planes
on the ground with one damaged P-35A to boot. Also, lthe
airbase itself got 14 hits, the runway was hit 24 times and
all this happened in about 16 minutes.

And after that there was a aweep by 7 Zeros of Clark AFB and
it was met by 7 P-40B's and each side lost one plane. The
sweep happened at about 23,000 feet and was over in about
28 minutes.

And now it's happening so fast I can't keep up. I'll do
the rest in pictures.

Before I get to reporting the combat results I just have to post this economic chart for 09Dec41. I haven't even
looked at it yet. I just now got through watching the combat replay and tried the #4 file to see if Tracker
would process it. I found out that if I delete the old trackerdb.* files and let the database be built from new
that it will. And the first thing I thought to do is post this because somebody asked for one. I'll have to go
over it with a fine tooth comb.

Here's how the second Pearl strike went. Somebody said to not expect much. He was right. Not a single ship
sunk. D'oh. But I DID get some damage on some major ships.

And then there was another strike at Pearl and I got some hits on the West Virginia. I would have sunk it but
there was a terrific CAP on duty.

Here's an aircraft unit that's different. It's a tug with a glider that it tows. I'm not sure how to use it for
sure and it's parked in the home islands right now and I've got it stood down so the morale will improve. I'm
aiming for 70% before it goes active again. I think it's used for aerial drops of some kind.

I don't see as many auto-convoy routes moving as I would like to see. I'll just have to do some of the routes

manually I guess. This is how the ports are doing today. I've been loading a bunch of troops at Shanghi and

I obviously forgot to turn on the load no supplies button because they have run Shanghi almost out of supplies.

I'll fix that of course, with a run from Port Arthur or somewhere, for supplies.

About 6 TF's are leaving Pescadores for Aparri with troops and there's another 4 TF's loading troops from the

rapidly vacated quays and docks and piers. Even the smaller ships are taking part in this invasion effort.

I'm building one TF for each LCU unit that loads up because I want to keep the pieces together as much as

possible. I'm finding some of the pieces of divisions are in the Singapore landings and I'm going to have to

move them to the PI somehow so they can build the stronger together divisions.

TF 212 is a group of PB's that I'm going to use for Asw

on a group of Allied subs lurking around the north end

of the PI. They are a treat to my TF's streaming south

from Pescadores and I need to do something about them.

These PB's are going to be backed up by one or two

spotter planes so I can maybe chase the subs away.

Here's a new wrinkle: I just now spotted an Allied TF approaching Wake from the SE and I have all kinds of little
boats that need to be alerted. I've got them downloading all kinds of supply but it appears that they will have
to leave dodge right NOW and steam to the NW as fast as they can go and I'll look around to see what can swave
their bacon but before looking I'm thinking it's going to have to be the KB that comes to the rescue.

The only LCU there on Wake is the Maizuru 2nd SNLF and it's got an AV of like 47 or so and the Allied thrust is
obviously to destroy them and I'm not sure I can get more resources to Wake to make any difference at all. We'll
see.

Of the transports at Wake, they were largely empty anyway so I broke the TF into two TF's one slow going full
speed and the other one a fast one which will stay at mission speed. I'm going to stear them to Tokyo just
for the direction I'll figure out a destination if they get away.

Here's the situation near Wake: I've got the transports at Wake headed for Tokyo and the
carriers are steaming toward point Texaco, where the AO's are and they are going full speed.
I need them near Wake and soon. So they are going to meet with the tankers and fuel up and
then steam for Wake at max sustainable speed followed by the tankers for another fill up
after they get there after the conflict if there is one.

Okie dokie, I've developed the situation a little bit. I'm moving all the picket subs toward Wake for whatever

support they might provide. And there's a squadron of Nells at Roi Something or other and they have almost got

the range to influence the fight. As it is I have them on ground attack and 10% search pointed at the Allied

TF. Maybe they will wonder within range. I've got to remember to keep my ships under their umbrella when they

arrive in this area.

I've been checking things and changing things and now I'm building TF's from singleton ships and I've come to
notice just now that there's an Allied TF sneaking into my perimeter near Makin. He's a single ship so far
headed SW and I'm thinking it's a scout for the carriers that aren't far behind. So I've got to scramble and
move the mini-KB out here for cover. I've dispatched some bait for that TF to draw him closer to Tarawa and
my LBA.

I thought I'd take a look at what my subs were doing now and most of them are lurking in the Pearl area and I

noticed a TF leaving Pearl headed east that has at least one BB in it. It's too late for me to chase it with

anything, I've already committed the KB to the Wake area and they already have their orders.

Unless it's a fog of war thing, I have sucessfully gotten a sub into Pago Pago's harbor. At least he's in the
same hex as the port. So I'm guessing there aren't any mines there yet. I'm going to leave him in the hex
for a while to see if anything turns up tasty. He's got endurance galore and he's not going to move so he will
be able to be there for at least a week unless circumstances change.

Re second PH strike

Sid tried to simulate Dec 7 surprise by disbaling all TUBES in AA units in PH at start. However, the tubes are painfully slow to undisable on the following turns and they should be still 97-99% disbaled on turn two. You only face CAP over PH, and no flak.
