Question for the PBEM Community

Post by ArmouredLion »

The game I'm currently playing has a community going through hiccups... great guys, great game, but a long time passes before turns happen in PBEM. I'm work from home now, and I have time on my hands and a hankering for digital WW2 battle. I am itching to pick this game up, but the price and that A.I. quickly loses its shine for me has me hesitant. Is there a strong PBEM community going on? If so it would super duper and my click to buy would feel a whole lot better. Thanks in advance.

I decided to take the plunge around two months back and go against humans and I have had absolutely no problem finding people to play both PBEM and the online multiplayer so at least from my experience I imagine you will have absolute no trouble buddy

Hey thanks, brother. Deciding between this and Strategic Command WWII War in Europe. Totally different games, but both have their appeal. Although, this one seems incredible... been on the verge of taking the plunge for a year now. That 79 bucks has been a road block, but the reviews are amazing, and this seems a must for WW2 freaks.

In terms of creating a game with the feel of mechanized warfare in Russia .. I would say WITE has no match. Just the right rule set of fluid ZOC , and MP to alllw for pocketing of units while the Germans race for objectives before the winter ...

You will find an opponent.. however the first turns are 4-6 hours a piece .. see beekeeper AAR link to a YouTube recorded German turn ...

I'm not questioning the AI in the least, as I haven't played the game... just bought it actually. But at 79 bucks it was an important question to know if it's challenging. I love ATG--a lot, but it really demands human players to be challenging. So I'm in the process now of getting my chops up in this game.

Cool... it might end up being longer for me as I start dreaming about my moves and time moves quick. Been playing ATG with the 1938 mod(so great) and just my German turns take half a day. Been playing a real good opponent, so I need to dot the i's and cross the T's... thanks though, brother. Been looking at this game for forever... now I'm in. Can't wait to get up to snuff to battle you gents!!! Thanks again. I love cracking open a new title, feel like a kid a Christmas!!!

yeah I often reach Moscow around late August, but cant seem to encircle Leningrad, and in the South I usually get rape, cant even get it past Odessa and Kiev. Although, I usually do manage to take West Kiev by November 41,

Nice... I prefer it slightly on the difficult side because I love the thrill of the chase. Looking it over it will take a little to visualize the interface, so I'm going to get reading so the numbers and such become picture... this isn't a bing, bang, boom game, which is cool as I love manuals that require study... it's a time killer on both ends.

Welcome aboard on the journey Lion! I dived into the WITE 'deep end' this summer and am loving it. Sure, it has some failings but the feel of it and it's community is excellent. Read AARs, watch youtube 'how tos' and don't despair with the amount of detail.

Thanks, brother. I'm diving too, right into that manual... usually I boot up an wing it and fine tune as I go. This one is a bit different... off to boot camo I go.

Yep go for it, I am 1 month into it, I did the Road to Leningrad scenario as my entry, I have played it 4 times and am still making both progress and mistakes. There is enough depth in this scenario to give you a good grounding. Pay particular attention to supply and rail repair, make extensive use of the FB4 repair unit that you can manually manage.

Good luck.

Thanks Clash... I'm getting my feet wet now. I'm messing around with the tutorial battle and reading, but you know what, I'll take your advice and dive into Leningrad scenario and do it couple of times and learn from exp... probably the best idea to cut my teeth the quickest. Thanks, sir.

Hey, brother. Don't have the DLC's, so I'm doing road to minsk. Basically just reading, looking over the interface. Playing and replaying the first turn by attacking and getting acclimated. My wife is in job training 6 days a week, so I'm working from home and managing 3 little ones 6 and under, and my dog and cat that think they're human. So free space in the noggin is limited ATM. She's done in 2 weeks and that's when I plan to really get serious. Right now I'm in boot camp and just throwing it against the wall. Taking the numbers and visualizing the reality it represents is my main goal. I'm a WW2 buff, so I enjoy just looking over the compositions and looking at the jpegs and the lists of equipment carried. Getting there bit by bit. Playing ATG and Strategic Command WWII War in Europe now. ATG is a middle road between WiTE and SC, but I have that down. SC is really cool as a streamlined over view, but not as intensive or deep as WiTE and easier on the brain. I really love the historicity of this game and the nuances... but with it comes a higher level of training... which I'm fine with once my brain gets so free time. Thanks though brother for asking. Getting there...
