Windows 8 / 8.1/10 Compatibility

Post by VPaulus »

For running Scourge of War: Waterloo on Windows 8 / 8.1 you'll need to do the following:

1. Open the game installation folder
(default) C:\Matrix Games\Scourge of War Waterloo

2. Find a file named SOWWL.exe. Select it and with the right mouse button select Properties. Press the Compatibility tab. Tick the Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 7. Press Apply/OK.

Thanks, without compatibility mode the game loads on Windows 8 but every graphic is messed up.

Would be better if a patch could correct it in game though (and Windows 10 is coming)

Win 7 compatibility did not work for me. There are black boxes around troops and boxes around trees.

Ok I had the black squares as well had to so set the comp to windows 7, it now runs fine. Is is bad for a brand new game that does not run in windows 8? and 10 is out soon as well.

in game windows 10 screen shots

settings used are,

The graphics settings for AntiAliasing and for Anisotropy must be set directly in the SOWWL.ini file. The default location for this file is My Documents/SOWWL. This file can be edited with Notepad or any other text editing program. The text to look for is:

[Initialization]
AntiA=2
Anso=2

but can go as high as 8 in both on this pc in use, looks great, plays as fast as anything, moves like a dream and looks crisp and lovely tbh, no errors in windows 10 what so ever, good job everyone

gone down to the deck for a low down view of some cav units approaching, camera angles and speed is as good as any game tested, fluid and very easy to use interface, UI is very well done, speed on a medium level pc and 2gb card is well impressed, may look now at a high end test pc with a 8gb card and more cpu power and see how much better or different it looks tbh.

doesn't matter on a medium level of pc and video card either, if a few 100 troops or a few 1000 are in play, game looks and plays well, with no slow down noticed, images blend in well and menu items can easily alter settings for high, medium and low use

Image

last one btw, just pointing out that game works fine for windows 10 users [X(]

Odd, I'm running the game on a laptop with Win 10 which was upgraded from a Win7 set-up and I didn't have to change any settings. SoW was originally installed when I had the Win7 set up. I am running it through Steam (online and offline). Does that make a difference?

Have I think similar issue; upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. Since then, game and menu screen are 'enlarged' and is unplayable.[&:]

Have been out for week. I tried the above solution and it symply doesn't work. I still get one quarter of the game screen in enlarged version. Tried the properties solution many times, but no change. What am I missing?
