hmm, OK, thanks, but it is really more of a preview, doesn't describe game play much at all. Nice screenshots though.

Also, I've not seen anything about TOAW IV coming out this year, is that correct?

+1. Was nice to see the screens but really didn't describe much about the game itself and why it was so good. Still an instant buy for me this week when released.

I didn't give a date for TOAW IV.

I just mentioned that it was upcoming.

No, but you made it sound like the listed games were the "lineup for the next few months." Of course communication about TOAW IV is as sparse as ever but if I had to guess I would look to the end of next year rather than the next few months.

That is my fault then.
I saw that it had been Twitch, so going by previous games I thought it was closer.
Also I find at my age the months whiz by, so my few months could be somebody else's year[:D]

I've been watching YouTube videos of solo play and multiplayer play. Could be the tactical ancient game I've been waiting for. The jury on the AI play is still out though; asking for more samiches as I speak. [:D]

One thing I saw I didn't like about multiplayer though was the restriction of units you could buy of certain ones. If I want 10 legionaries I want 10 not 1. I hope that's just something those guys setup before the multiplayer event. I hope I would be able to get as many of one or more units as I want based on the buy point system. If I have 1000pts to spend I want to spend them on what I want not what the developer thinks I should have.

heh, well maybe you'll turn out to be right, there is very little info about the state of the game, so maybe let pop it on us on Christmas Eve or something.

Is AWNT planning a more in-depth review at some point, or is this it? This is one of the few Matrix games that will be a first-day buy for me, but lots of FOG 1 players might be interested in more info about the combat system, etc.

The best would be a system of buying legionnaires to auction with bitcoins![:D]

I was going to do a piece on the Phalanx versus the legion in the game, along with more shots and more AARs.

As far as the actual rule set I cannot post anything today because of constraints, but I hope to have an answer to you tomorrow afternoon.

I was hoping for a more in depth review, but to be honest I plan on purchasing regardless of reviews....unless it has a very high price tag.

What a great marketing idea. 1998-2018: TOAW IV will celebrate the 20th anniversary of THE GAME.

I just meant that their coming lineup was excellent.

I have no info whatsoever on release dates etc.

Okay, I can post earlier than I thought about Field of Glory II.

Both FOG I and FOG II are based on the Field of Glory table top rules.

One of the developers of FOG II was actually a co-author of the table top rules.

There are some slight differences in FOG II to the table top rules, but only to make it playable in a computer setting.

I am not a big fan of FOG I and to me the games are like night and day

Thanks...but personally not interested in a comparison between the 1st version and the new version...was more hoping for details on how this specific version plays. For example, how solid is the AI? What does it do well and not so well? Do results seem believable? How long does a game take? If I am not mistaken this has campaign features....how good are they? How do they work? etc. I know what the marketing material has said, just curious from actual players that have played it.

The AI is very good and I thought I mentioned that in the review and showed it in the small AAR.

As far as the different interactions between the troops, I am quite satisfied. There have been questions from some people about some actions, but that is to be expected.

You will always have someone saying "but the armor of a Panther could not be penetrated at that distance" etc.

I really like the interaction in battle between the phalanx and legion. Neither one is too overpowered and the results follow history pretty well.

Because the game, like the others it is related to, is based on morale and its breaking the length of the game entirely rests on the player.

The game is capable, on a good enough computer, to have 80 units per side. Most of the scenarios I have played were only a fraction of that. So that would be a factor also.

The campaign feature is different than say Pike and Shot.

I will post more when time permits.
