Turn 23. May/June 1943. Allied #2. Contested Sea Area. West Indian Ocean.

The RN declines to attempt naval combat in this sea. Japan can if they wish. Neither side has any additional planes that can react.

Instructions for the West Indian Ocean?
Yes, engage and go after the CP. (I thought both should be disorganized because of the intercept attempt on the CP earlier).

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Allied #2. Contested Sea Area. Bay of Bengal.

The RN declines to attempt naval combat in this sea. Japan can if they wish. Neither side has any additional planes that can react.

Instructions for the Bay of Bengal?
React the NAV to the 0-box (unless it has already reacted to SCS, if so, then react the fighter to the 0-box).
Avoid combat if possible.

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Allied #2. Contested Sea Area. Arabian Sea.

The RN declines to attempt naval combat in this sea. Japan can if they wish. Neither side has any additional planes that can react.

Instructions for the Arabian Sea?
Yes initiate with an aircraft unit. Make it an A-S and go after the 0-box, with the idea of eliminating the CP as a priority. If CP gone, in following rounds go after the CA in the 4-box.

Who was the unfortunate that Ali was beating up on?
Chuck Wepner in Cleveland. Apparently is was the fight that inspired Sylvester Stallone to make Rocky.
Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner fought each other in a boxing match on March 24, 1975. ... Ali won the fight after he knocked out Wepner in the fifteenth round. The fight is notable for being among the four fights in which Ali was officially knocked down in the ring, and for inspiring the 1976 film Rocky.

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Allied #2. Naval Combat. The Marianas. Round 1.
ORIGINAL: ashkpa
Turn 23. May/June 1943. Allied #2. Contested Sea Area. The Marianas.

The USN will attempt naval combat in this sea area. Shown are the planes from both sides that can react.

Instructions for the Marianas?
No reaction. I will avoid combat if possible.
The USN finds the IJN on search rolls of 4 to 10. The USN includes all boxes in the hopes of splashing the IJN Nav. Even at air-to-air odds of -2 (IJN) / +3 (USN) the front USN fighter is forced to abort and the IJN NAV is cleared. Outnumbered and outgunned the Japanese fighter declines to continue the air-to-air.

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Allied #2. Naval Combat. The Marianas. Round 1 (con't).

The IJN battleship Kongo puts up decent flak, but it's not enough. The Kongo is sunk along with the lone Japanese CP operating in the Marianas.

USN flak is brutal and forces the Japanese NAV to have to abort.

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Allied #2. Naval Combat. The Marianas. Round 2.

Heavily outnumbered, outgunned and with no SCS or CP's to protect, the lone Japanese fighter unit decides it's best to retire and live to fight another day. That is, the IJN fighter decides abort and not to stay around for a potential second round of combat.

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Allied #2. Naval Combat. South China Sea. Round 1.

Well, this sub combat goes the Japanese way.

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Allied #2. Contested Sea Area. South China Sea.

The USN & RN will attempt sub combat in this sea area. Only Japan has planes that can react.

Instructions for the South China Sea?
React the NAV to the 0-box.
If I have SP, use them first to move allied damage up so that the subs are sunk and damaged (I am willing to take a small risk that there may be some subs left). Once that is taken care of, then use SP to reduce damage to the fleet units. If my NAV is engaged make it an naval air and use all SP to increase damage. Note, it may be useful to make it a sub combat if my CA's find (reduces your damage to me).

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Allied #2. Non-Phasing Naval Combat. West Indian Ocean. Round 1.

Though the IJN force the combat, the RN is victorious and clear the West Indian Ocean of Japanese naval forces.

"(I thought both should be disorganized because of the intercept attempt on the CP earlier)" -- a unit that attempts to intercept (whether successful or not) can also be used in the same impulse to attempt to initiate a naval combat in its sea area.

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Allied #2. Non-Phasing Naval Combat. Bay of Bengal.

I interpted your statement, "Avoid combat if possible" to mean not to attempt to initiate naval combat here. So no attempt by either side to initiate, so no combat in the Bay of Bengal.

MWIF is right:

You must now turn a unit (except a convoy) face-down. If you can’t
turn a unit face-down, you can’t intercept. You can turn a SUB facedown
even if you don’t intend to commit your SUBs.
As long as that face-down unit remains in the sea-box, you can make
further interception attempts in that sea area against other task forces
during the same impulse without having to turn over another unit. If
that unit is in the sea-box during naval combat, it also allows you to
attempt to start a naval combat there without having to turn another
unit face-down (see 11.6)
.
