Baku or Bust

Post by ChuckBerger »

OK, not really a full AAR, just a quick shot of the end of my game against normal AI, where I set out to see whether I could capture Baku.

Basically I killed off the entire Soviet army by the end of September, including a huge encirclement at Moscow that trapped 100+ units... 4 million Soviet losses to around 300K for the Axis. Biggest problem getting to Baku was fuel, of course. I ran out of fuel around Rostov, but managed to get just enough accumulated after that to make a lunge for Baku, using the motorised divisions only. The thirstier panzers were all left behind around Rostov.

On other fronts, moved up to the Volga all along the front, taking Vologda/Saratov/Stalingrad by the end.

I had to leave Moscow and Gorki surrounded so as not to trigger auto-victory until I had made it to Baku. Took both of those on the turn following Baku's capture, for a handy win in mid-October.

Any ideas for another "stretch goal" against AI, while I wait for another real human player?

Wow that's quite impressive. How about reaching the Urals, or a harder challenge, accomplishing the AA line?
