How to drop a unit off in a port that your TRS is passing through

Post by jjdenver »

I've got queens in Aden with Sydney MIL. I want to put Sydney MIL in Suez and have Queens keep sailing back to India. How do I do this? I've tried holding down ctrl while moving and clicking into the port and game seems to offer a drop off dialog box but I can only select queens not MIL and when I select queens it literally drops the queens off and movement ends.

You cannot sail into port, disembark cargo and keep sailing on with the lift. You have two options:

1) Sail the Queens loaded into the Red Sea (naval move) and disembark Sydney MIL (land move). This may require two impulses if you sail out in a naval. That will leave the Queens face-down in the Red Sea and the Sydney MIL face-up in Suez (unless there is Storm in the Med). At turn end you can RTB the Queens to India and have them in a port you like for next turn.

2) Sail the Queens loaded into Suez (naval move). Queens will end the naval move face-down in Suez, the cargo will stay face-up when you sail port to port and disembark automatically. If Wavel is still in Egypt and in range of Suez you can reorg the Queens for a second round-trip.

Ok so I had the basic rule wrong. Thanks for clarifying.

I also played with board game so that TRS can drop units in ports. And few other rules were played wrong too [:)]

They can drop units in ports (and sometimes without ports, just in the coast) but then the movement is over.

Note that it *is* legal to sail into a port, pick up a unit, and continue on. As to why the two cases are different, you guess is at least as good as mine.

Note that it is even legal to do that in the return to base phase, assuming the unit is organized.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

Lift and cargo need to be face-up in that case.

I knew the first one but not the second one. It can provide a nice surprise the first time used. Although it would be polemic in our group and probably stall the game so...
