[FIXED B972.8] SA-11 still launching and hitting after radars destroyed.

Post by ussdefiant »

Simple enough, load save as OPFOR, take a look at the Gadfly battery, see the two TELARS with radars destroyed and therefore unable to be illuminated, see F-117 get eyeballed and blown up by non-radar launcher anyway. I know SA-11s don't need illumination to launch, but they still need it to hit, and I'd think they can only get Buddy Illumination from other SA-11 launchers, not that Flat Face radar which is the only one still intact?

I agree that there is something wrong with this setup. I updated the scenario to the latest DB version under B972.4 and the SA-11 is indeed firing and guiding a missile without having the means to do it as all its radars are destroyed and it has no optical guidance ability.

To HMSImperator, please do a proper bug report mentioning the DB and build version next time. The Devs are generally a lot more open and responsive to a proper report instead of just blurting out that something is wrong without giving any further information....

If you look at the db for an SA-11 armed unit, you'll see later SA-11s are armed with electro-optical tracking systems. They are there specifically to defeat SEAD-type attacks. This might be what you are seeing. Whenever someone posts that SAMs are launching without radars, that is the first thing I check.

Just ran through a bunch of tests. Even with the camera destroyed, it still tracks and kills the Tornado coming in. I also destroyed the Mk1 Eyeball and the SA-11 is still able to track and kill the enemy unit. I'll play around with it some more, but I thin the advice of packaging it up as a bug report is good advice.

Thanks [8D]

The SAM unit would fire but the missiles would not guide, correct?

The SA-11/17 combo is unique in that one TELAR can guide missiles of another TELAR, so one each TELAR launched a missile hoping the other one had an operational radar to handle the Terminal Illumination when time came to do so (within 5 seconds of impact).

Have update the AI slightly, and it will now check the radar damage of the other TELARs before shooting. This bug only affected the SA-11/17 combo (and Chinese copies of it).

There was another aspect of the issue in that it was still managing to actually go and hit things even without any terminal illumination from anything. I'm not sure if its a Supports Buddy Illumination issue or if its related to only requiring terminal illumination in general, but i think even KOing the radar TELARs after launch would result in any missiles in the air still hitting.

Hmm yeah was an incorrect evaluation for SA-11 there as well. Should be fixed in the next version. Thanks!
