air rebase of CVP

Post by ashkpa »

The Japanese have no air activities left during the air rebase phase. Should they be allowed to rebase a CV plane from Truk to a carrier in the 3-box of the Mariannas?

I've attached the file as well, in case the answer is no. Go to Truk, click on the CVP plane in Truk that is not loaded on a carrier and rebase it to the Mariannas.

Second issue, since I've upgraded to 2.6.1, the top edge of several pop up selection boxes (including the select carrier box in this case) appear above the top of the screen. In that location I can no longer grab the top of the box and move it around. Any thoughts on how to address this?

When a window is outside of the screen area, you can grab a lower corner and drag and it will reset the top withint the screen. You can also do a right-click on the windows task bar and click one of the windows settings like "show windows side by side" and that will redraw all of the windows within the screen.

Will check out the other problem later.

That's a bug. Probably the result of implementing this from the 2008 Errata: "During the aircraft rebase step, you may rebase CVPs within a hex (i.e. from one CV to another, and/or from a CV to land) for no action limit cost."

Keywords "within a hex" got missed.

You can embark a CVP from Truk to an empty CV that ends its naval move in an adjacent sea zone.

Not if you haven't got any air missions left, which is the case here...

Embarkment does not cost air missions, it is part of the naval move (same as loading a plane to a TRS).

Yes, but this is occurring during the air rebase phase.

I am not having any problem with this. I think you might be doing it wrong.

I can select a CV plane from the Truk and then drop it on the stack of CVs in the 3 Box of the Marianas (click on the stack when you see the bullsey). It then identifies the CVs that have room to land on the carrier (in this case Soryu).

I think you are trying to put the plane in the sea area without consideration for the carrier. You can not do that. It would take an air mission during the Naval Air phase to fly to the sea area. It does not cost air actions to land on a carrier.

I think the OP was saying he could fly this rebase mission even though he had no air missions left, and if so, this is a bug.

I think this is a confusion with RAW8. You can do this in RAW8 but RAW7 (and thus MWiF) has no provision for doing this with anything else but a TRS.

This is done during rebases. It is landing CV planes onto CVs. These do not cost air missions. I do them all the time as that is really the only way to load CVs with planes outside of reinforcements.

Based on my read of the wording, I think this is correct. However, I get a sense that he was trying to put the plain in the sea area rather than the fleet.

You can give it a try yourself. Just click on the port hex where the CV plane is and then the 3 box, where the CV is. Pretty simple.

I've done it to see it works but it should not be done in a game because it is taking advantage of a bug in the program. If the CVP rebase is in the same hex as the CV, then it is free of mission cost. If it is out to sea to land on a CV then it is supposed to cost an air mission. This is what the errata stated. (Quoted in Post 3 above.)

Okay. I went to RAC (p. 127) and see that it is there, as well. There is some slightly contradictory wording but it still mostly matches.

Steve will need to know to include that in his list of fixes.
