Development of New Ekranoplan Type GEV for Russia`s Navy is underway

A super-heavy transport-landing ground effect vehicle (GEV) being capable of sea (like its predecessors) and ground landing is being developed for Russia`s military. The dimensions of the GEV will be comparable with those of the KM ground effect vehicle - the base for the Project 903 (Lun) aerial vehicle - that was known well in the Soviet age. The GEV is planned to be used in the Arctic region and in the Pacific for search-and-rescue operations and logistics support of remote bases, according to the Izvestia newspaper.

Russian Navy Kirov-class cruiser Admiral Nakhimov's Hull to be Rebuilt during Upgrade & Overhaul

Russia`s 'Admiral Nakhimov' heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser of Project 11442M (NATO reporting name: Kirov-class) is waiting for hull rebuilding works. The rebuilding will change the design of the ship: the missile deck and the superstructure that incorporates the conning room, the combat information center and antenna farm will be modified (the later in a partial manner). The large-scale works are required to integrate advanced weapon systems. The rebuilding of the hull may lead to the shift of the delivery date of the ship, according to the Izvestia newspaper.

Russian Navy Future Project 20385 Corvette Gremyashchy 65% Completed
Severnaya Verf shipyard (part of USC) continues outfitting work on the lead corvette of Project 20385. The technical readiness of the corvette has reached 65%, the shipyard’s press service reported. "The shipyard’s personnel is finishing electrical installation of weapons and special equipment on board the Gremyaschy. Cabin lining continues, domestic sewage, general ship hydraulics and air conditioning systems are being installed on board the ship. Advance outfitting for flooring and the installation of electrical equipment are underway. Cabling to all ship systems is being is completed. The total length of power and low-current cables on board the corvette is almost 300 km. Workers began to plate the galley, and after this work is completed, installation of stoves, ovens and other galley equipment will begin," said the press service.

The High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) was fired from the flight deck of the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Anchorage (LPD 23) during Dawn Blitz 2017 Oct. 22. The HIMARS is a weapons system made up of the M142, five-ton chassis vehicle and can carry either a launcher pod of six rockets or one MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS).

I'm no naval architect (or whatever you call a ship designer), but that ROK PKX-B Chamsuri II looks amazingly un-seaworthy. It seems very top heavy.

Kawasaki Heavy Industries Launched the 10th Soryu-class SSK SS-510 Shoryu for the JMSDF

The 10th Soryu-class SSK, SS-510 Shoryu, was launched at the Kawasaki Heavy Industries shipyard in Kobe on November 6th. The Soryu-class diesel-electric submarines are being built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporation for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).
SS-510 Shoryu is the 28th submarine built by Kawasaki after the war and the 10th Soryu-class submarine built for the JMSDF (the 5th built by Kawaski, the other five ones having been built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries). Shoryu's keel was laid in January 2015 and is set to be delivered to the JMSDF in March 2018.

Hyundai Heavy Industries Launched the Fourth & Last LST-II Landing Ship for ROK Navy

South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has announced that the fourth LST-II class Landing Ship Tank "No Jeok Bong" was christened and launched on November 2nd. The amphibious vessel is intended for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROK Navy). The LST is the last of four vessels built as part of South Korea's next generation landing ship project. The first ship, the "Cheon Wang Bong", was delivered to the ROK Navy in November 2014 and the second one "Cheon Ja Bong" was delivered in August 2017.

Russian Navy to receive Attack Variant of Project 03160 Raptor Patrol Boat
Russia`s Navy will get an attack variant of the Project 03160 (Raptor-class) patrol boat. It is believed to receive a reinforced armament suite that will allow engagement of enemy`s small craft and providing of fire support to the troops. The ASM has been officially introduced to the armament suite of the Su-35S after trials. PT Pal Delivers 2nd SIGMA 10514 PKR Frigate to Indonesia (TNI AL) KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai
PT PAL delivered the second of two SIGMA 10514 Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR) guided-missile frigates to the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) on October 30 2017. The vessel, KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai, is named after the Indonesian War of Independence hero who fought against the Dutch between 1945 and 1949. PT PAL built these ships in collaboration with Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS). The ceremony was attended by Indonesian Navy and ministry of defense officials.

U.S. NRL Tested New Nomad UAS from USS Coronado LCS 4

Researchers from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) successfully completed testing their Nomad flight vehicle off of USS Coronado (LCS 4) in August. This test demonstrated the Nomad’s upgraded launch and control capabilities as well as a new recovery capability by launching multiple vehicles in quick succession, conducting formation flying operations, and recovering all vehicles sequentially onboard the USS Coronado.

Guided-Missile Cruiser USS Mobile Bay Testing updated AEGIS Baseline 9 Weapons System

During a recent underway to test weapons capabilities, guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) conducted a live-fire missile exercise using the updated AEGIS Baseline 9 weapons system. There are currently 84 U.S. Navy ships in service with variations of the AEGIS Weapons System installed: 22 cruisers and 62 destroyers, with Mobile Bay being the first cruiser to upgrade to Baseline 9 software and capabilities, with minor changes in equipment on top of the Baseline 8 system.

Options are the F-15, F-18, F-35 or Eurofighter Typhoon. The Luftwaffe prefers the F-35, and a new development is ruled out as it would take too much time and be too expensive for the 100 or so aircraft required.

South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) is showcasing a scale model of the DW3000 Frigate ordered by the Royal Thai Navy at the Defense & Security 2017 defense exhibition currently held in Bangkok. Thailand ordered the 3,650 tons frigate in August 2013 under a contract worth US$410 million.

ROK Navy to Procure 12 Additional Naval Helicopters

South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced this week that a tender for twelve naval helicopters for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROK Navy) will be issued in 2018. The ROK Navy acquired eight AW159 last year in two batches in June and December, respectively. The first four were deployed in February this year with Incheon-class frigates.

Russia Discussing Gepard-5.1 Frigate Loan With Sri Lanka
Russia and Sri Lanka are planning to agree on a draft of the intergovernmental agreement on a loan for a Russian-made Gepard-5.1 frigate before the yearend, Deputy Director of Russia’s Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation Mikhail Petukhov said. Petukhov made this statement at the Defense & Security 2017 exhibition.

The Gepard patrol ship will be a bit simpler than the vessels we have been building for Vietnam. Naval Group Refines the Design of its FTI / Belharra Next Generation Frigate

French shipbuilding group Naval Group (formerly known as DCNS) continues to flesh out the design of its Belharra frigate currently being developed for the French Navy (Marine Nationale). A new scale model of the FTI (frégate de taille intermédiaire or mid-size frigate) showcased during the Pacific 2017 naval defense event shows that Naval Group has been busy in the past year optimizing the design around the bridge area and the helicopter hangar, providing a much improved look to the next generation surface combatant.
