New game not loading again

Bloodybill and I have been playing Global War using 2.5.7.4 (and earlier beta patches) over the last few weeks on Netplay and today decided to start a new Global War game.

Unfortunately a new game is locking up on us and won't completely load. We can load an older save game without any problem just not a new one.

Anyone have an idea on what may be causing this? We both have the same patch.

Yes..I know that. But as I indicated we can load a previous game with no problem on netplay, just starting a new one. This has only recently happened.

"Won't completely load" isn't much information to go on.

I would bet on Peter's guess. The names have to be precise (upper and lower case matters). Load one of the saved games that works and look at the player names to make sure you have them correct. Actually, you don't have to load the saved game. The Red Panel that appears with the details of the saved game will show the player names.

Well, we go thru the process of creating a new game then log onto netplay. Once the game is accepted by the other party, the game begins to load on both computers. The loading screens appear with the two horizontal bars that fill up as it loads. It gets to about 90% complete and then stops and locks up, I have to use ctrl-alt-del to get out of it.


What's odd is we can load an older game and it loads up just fine, but just today trying to start a new game is causing us problems.

I also double checked my name and it is the same as it always has been. It worked fine a couple weeks ago when we were on 2.5.5. We tried it a half dozen times before we gave up.

A little more info, I just noticed that as the game is loading it gets to the "Setting Political relationships" step and then locks up on both our machines. Again this only occurs when trying to do a netplay game, not in solo mode for either of us.

One more thing, and I don't know if this is related or not, but during the last turn of our previous game I had moved the Australian 6-2 militia unit using the Dutch transport to the south china sea. During the CW move I offloaded it to Singapore where I already had an Indian infantry unit. During the end of turn "Allied-Return to Base" phase I went to move that Dutch transport to Batavia, but as I clicked on it the Australian militia appeared back onto the transport but was also still at Singapore. I ended up putting the transport into Darwin and saw that the Aussie unit was now at Darwin and no longer at Singapore. As we started a new impulse, both of us got a similar pop-up indicating there was a problem with that aussie unit due to supply I think and that the game corrected the problem.

I don't recall the exact verbiage on that pop-up since it was only up for a short time.

It was then that we decided to start a new game and started to run into problems. Again we could load old games but not a brand new one. I'm wondering if it's possible one or the other of us ended up with some corrupted files somehow.

We both are using the same patch 2.5.7.4.

As an update, we both now are using 2.6.1 and again both of us can log onto the netplay forum and see each other on there, and we can successfully load an old game and play it.

But even with this new patch, we start a new global war game and it stops loading at the "Setting Political Relationships" phase, same as what happened using the earlier patch.

Ok..both Bloodybill and myself and fully reinstalled the game and all the patches up to 2.6.1 and triple checked our log in names and passwords. We ARE able to log onto the netplay forums and see about 120 other folks online there.

We started a new global war game and guess what..it locks up exactly at the same place during the loading cycle as I describe above.

Both of us are now reloading patch 2.5.5 because we know that we were able to start a new game with that patch. Just so you know the problem of locking up as described first started with the 2.5.7.4 beta patch.

So somewhere in 2.5.7.4 is the problem..not our files...not our passwords..but in the patch itself.

We both use windows 10. As for the game it is a Global War scenario using all of the optional rules except construction eng, Hq movement, all 4 supply rules, and allied friction turned off. Bill plays as the Axis and I as the Allies. Not sure what else I can tell you that might help.

So somewhere in 2.5.7.4 is the problem..not our files...not our passwords..but in the patch itself.

I'll try to start up a new Global War using NetPlay today to make sure that my current version works okay.
