It was interesting seeing all of the different weapon systems listed for the dd 'sunk by' shots. I guess it takes a village to kill a navy.

This is the idea behind what I'm trying to do. The white lines being a border that would be more defensible and shorter than what the Soviets start with. This would also offer some opportunities to strike quickly into the center of the IJA positions should they overstretch, and also a big advantage in inside lines by rail from South to North.
The dotted yellow lines are short term tactical goals to make this plan work.

The 22nd started with more of the same, but no hits this time. Still lots of activity in the area between Singkawang nd Palembang.
The RN CLs went hunting and had a secondary mission of targeting Pontiniak to try for a few shots on Myoko. Either she left or our guys missed, so no joy there. With all of the stuff running around here they only managed to find an SC and dispatched it easily. One thing learned is that both Mavis and zeros are based at Pontiniak. Looks like a is it from the 4Es is in order. This level 1 base can be closed easily.
S-41 finally gets a hit on an xAK near Kuching.
In the day phase more LR CAP is caught over Palembang, and 4 A6M2 shot down. I like this pattern. I need to start sweeping the small bases around here too and see if I can catch more.
It's been hard to hit Palembang with my 2Es. They're just not scoring enough here. I'll be sending a few bombardments in soon anyway, but it's worrying that I can only get about 12-15 hits on the fields a day sending 50-60 bombers.
It looks like he's either loading or dropping something at Palembang from the remaining ships that have been in port. Albacore's flew and knocked out 6 xAK there today. How many more are hiding there? [X(]
The Japanese invaded Manado, but only with one SNLF. It might take the base, but if not I might fly some troops back in that were removed.

So the crossing to Tsitsahar wasn't great, but not a complete disaster either. I could have done this better. Loka is right. I should have attempted to extricate the tanks rather than move in to support them.
Anyway, now time to open a hexside and get out of this base quickly. I don't fear attacks here since our AV is still quite close, and we have a lot of arty and tanks plus good AA. I don't have the turn file yet but tanks should have crossed north of the city today and will head into it tomorrow on the grey road, opening that side. Then everything can move out.
Nothing happening elsewhere up here.

So the crossing to Tsitsahar wasn't great, but not a complete disaster either. I could have done this better. Loka is right. I should have attempted to extricate the tanks rather than move in to support them.
Anyway, now time to open a hexside and get out of this base quickly. I don't fear attacks here since our AV is still quite close, and we have a lot of arty and tanks plus good AA. I don't have the turn file yet but tanks should have crossed north of the city today and will head into it tomorrow on the grey road, opening that side. Then everything can move out.

The defence of Wenchow will go down in Chinese history as a major heroic achievement by the 88th and 100th Corps and the 3rd War Area Hq.
This started with three complete IJA divisions pounding away supported by 100+ bombers a day and some sporadic naval bombardments. Currently the base is still being hit daily by virtually all of the bombers in China, but the IJA divisions have been worn to a nub of their previous strength. They're now registering 429 AV!! [X(]

Here is a look at the most important area right now on map. The IJN has moved in several DD and Cruiser led TFs to Muntok. I know CA Kinugasa is among the ships and CL Naka, and it looks like another cruiser TF is arriving off of Kuching. I'll try to intercept some of the TFs at Muntok.
The Allied fleets have just been strengthened by the re-emergence of CA Chester after a lengthy repair (about 40 days) in Singers. So we have four RN BBs, two RN CAs, five USN CAs, nine RN CLs of varying quality, and about 10 USN and 6 RN DDs. These are 5 USN DMs and 2 DMS also here, plus an assortment of escort and other minelaying and minesweeping ships. I just transferred 12 USN PT boats from OZ to Merak and there are 8 MTBs and about 15 MLs in the area.
For once I feel like we have a slight advantage in surface forces and I'd like to take advantage by hitting anything out there and bombarding a few smaller bases to keep CAP fro musing these to protect Sumatra or the roving IJN ships. I'll hit Sinkep with the BBs, Muntok with USN CAs, and go for Toboali with some AMc to sweep the last of the mines before hitting them again with a bombardment. Palembang will be a target for RN CAs Cornwall and Dorsetshire, but they have to pass Muntok first so might get involved there before making their primary mission. There are still ships listed at Palembang and it looks like a bunch of MTBs or midgets or something. Lots of single ship TFs.
Singers is out of fuel, but I have several xAK/xAKL sneakily loading at Sumatra ports to bring fuel in. 4k is on route so far and I'll load up more as they get to Singers. A small force is also set to invade Sinkep. [;)]

The 23rd opened with some close calls and some minor skirmishes, but the IJN pulled back and we didn't get a chance to engage further. This did mean an open shot at Palembang though. [;)]That means my bombers can now concentrate on oil for a few turns and I can plan the next bombardment routine.
We did get to an xAK and a PB that seem like refugees from Palembang.
The RN cruisers did some more work on Palembang, and there were still a few ships left in port including a DD, which is now likely sunk, and another xAK. All bombers switched to the fields and oil, but the weather is awful and hits sporadic. There were 3 hits on Palembang oil and 7 on Djambi. I need some clear skies soon here!! Partly cloudy is forecast tomorrow.
The BBs got a decent shot on Sinkep, where I bet there is only a mini-base force. Our troops are loading and should land in a day or two. No reported sightings of the TF yet, which is made up of two AMC.

Up North the tanks do break the hexside at Tsitsahar and everything will move out starting tomorrow. All of the forward tanks units will move ahead toward Sunwu.
The fields at Tungho are shut and now I'll focus on ground troops there. I have only one division moving in but if he doesn't notice it could be interesting. Troops everywhere are recovering from recent failed attacks, and in general most forces are in good nick. I've still only lost 9 MiGs so far in the war, but he's avoiding CAP right now it seems.
In China Sallys try a bold unescorted daylight raid, and the peashooter CAP is so weak they actually get 8 hits. We do shoot down around 7-8 bombers, so that's good, but better planes (AVG) have been moved in now.

A less exciting turn today. Huge day bombing though![;)]
[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font]The USN CAs bombard Muntok with somewhat underwhelming effect. They plaster Palembang regularly, but get only a few hits here on this level 1 base. The intel is useful though. Pete's are running search here and there is a base force unit, maybe a small Coy, so the base can support fighters and CAP. That means I need to keep working on it. The goal with the next week is to land at all three bases with airfields in this area; Sinkep, Muntok and Toboali.
There is only a week left for the amphibious bonus. Anything after that will take the Japanese much more time, should have to be prepped and will often need the better, faster unloading ships to accomplish.
Singers is hit again, but not spectacularly. Still, with 50-60 infantry squads a week being disabled, the divisions there probably won't be attacking again soon. Supply at Singers has reached 55k, and another 20-30k is available to send in should the coast look clear. Fort construction goes up about 3% a day. So in another month or so, if luck continues and no other big change occurs, forts could hit level 6. [:)]
The Major news of the day though is that the motley crew hitting Palembang strike for 36 total oil hits!!! [8D][&o]
Excited to see the results there. The 4Es actually do significantly worse at Djambi, getting only 5 hits and only a few on the runways. Still, this is slowly chipping away, and I won't be ready to take the base for another 5-7 days.

I think both of the two bases, Heiho and Sunwu, have level 4 fields.

Lowpe is apparently changing out his data files. Seems he might have a problem in Manchuria. He hasn't let me know what the nature of it is yet, so I can't really comment without revealing info to him.

My guess is the garrison at Mukden with its 2000 AV typo...
