Call for AAR's

Post by larryfulkerson »

Tamas says that I can start posting public AAR's just as soon as the release happens and now with the date of the
release creaping up on us I'd like to encourage the players to run their gameplaying process through the AAR modificaton.
It's easier to document the problems you might find with the new game engine if you post a picture of the error
message or graphical glitch or what have you. Also, I plan on being the first to publish an AAR using TOAW IV so
if you want to beat me to it you're going to have to act fast. I've already given thought to starting my game and
saving the pictures as files so I can just wham bam and it's done. I look forward to all the AARs you guys are going
to produce. I plan on producing a bunch of them.

Does anybody have a favorite period or theme or location that they would like
to see the AAR for? I'm taking opinions for what AAR I should do and your
favorite scenario might just be the one. What would you like to see?

Thanks for the heads up, Larry,
I am working on an AAR for Ardennes 1944. It should be ready for 16 December.

The scale should be 2.5 km and one-half day turns. It would probably have to be 105 turns long.
Each individual unit should be represented. Something like that.

Okay you guys, it's official. Brian ( General Patton ) volunteered to be my
opponent for the AAR and it's looking like it's going to be D21 version
4.2, the one with no equipment file to monkey with, the latest version that
has been revamped and fixed and brand new, hot off the griddle.

D21 has become one of my favorites as of late and I've gotten to turn
63 before just playing against the AI and it's a fastenating treatment of the
event. How do you spell facinating? I'm going to be the Axis and Brian will
be the Soviets, although I would have been perfectly happy to play the Soviets
myself. How many players can play either side? I'm not convinced I can.

I'm going to try a new strategy: forget about Leningrad, drop everything and
get Moscow first and make front lines from there in concentric circles pushing
further and further outward until I have most of the industry and objectives
and can probably just do maintence on the front lines and hold on for a couple
of years.

I have no idea how far along we will get but I hope to do all of the turns.
I'm wondering if I should draw up some home rules, although I can't think of
any right off the top of my head. No 4-engine ground attacks below 10K feet?
Strategic attacks by the Soviets is perfectly fine. Let him bomb Berlin if
he wants to. That kind of thing.

I have permission to start the AAR as soon as the release happens because it's
going to involve screenshots, etc. and I wish to showcase the new UI and the
new dialogs and the combat planner and all the new dodads and chrome. Details
I'll give you the details. What goes on under the hood. Tricks and traps.
Whatever you guys want I'll see what I can do. Fair enough?

EDIT: I've gotten used to having the battle sounds playing in the background.

What scale is D21?
It was 10km/hex and half week turns in TOAW III. Don't know if that is changed.

I fired up D21 just now to check it out and Meyer1 is correct. I guess that didn't
change.

I'd prefer to see a scenario which was created for TOAW IV from the scratch. Then - every TOAW-AAR is fine! ;)

This. With naval since it's a new addition. Show people how naval/land interact in some way too but not with a monster scenario. Keep it concise so people can understand what's going on while not getting bored and walking away from it.

Okay you guys, the higher ups have heard your opinion and they decided
that D21 isn't quite the right vehicle for this project. They
decided that Korea 2013 should be the title. It's new, designed
for TOAW IV and it's traditional to have the Korean war as the
demonstration model. Stand by for news.

I'd prefer D21 by far. But also the WW2 pacific or WW2 global war scenarios would be great to see.
