Aaarrrrghhh....

Just played a duel with Taren, and got my *** whooped.
My Avatar vs. his Behemoth in the dungeon. I started it off with the comment "This is going to be interesting" after seeing my wepons array: 4 NM, 2 ML, 4 Flamers. Not something I'd likely select on my own. But I figured I could handle it alright and take him down, or at least put up a good fight.

Well, en route to where he had perched himself, he managed to trip me. Took me several trys to get up again after that, because his PGs and CLGs kept bashing me. Over the course of it, I lost some flamer ammo and got one damaged light. Once I was out of direct sight, I tried to fix the damaged flamer. It didn't work the first time... or the second time. So I stopped somewhere sheltered and kept trying. Third times the charm? No. Foruth? Are you kidding? Rolled 99/51. Finally, it got fixed- just as he came back into view quite a ways away and started pounding me again.

Once I could use my NMs effectively, I started firing. I think I heated myself up more than him this way... Way more than half the shots missed completely, even with 70+ to hit. Finally, I thought I'd caught up with him, only to find him jumping over an acid river a short distance away. I tried to knock him into it, but I don't think I hit him once. He triped me a couple times, then my leg went red. I looked at it: 10 internals left. I scratched his paint job a bit, then got a (somewhat) decent to-hit and did an alphastrike. Everything missed. I shut down with 151 heat. At that point, I just quit... I didn't stand a chance...

Taren... I'm coming for you... I'll get you one of these days......

Hehe, I'll be waiting.

He did have me worried at several points with those NMs, generally right after I'd fired a PG or two. At one point, he had me up to 141 heat. Fortunately, the behemoth is all energy, so nothing had a chance to start popping, but I was still pretty worried.

Battled Lobsteve in assaults, my Daemon Lord (I don't like that titan much) vs. his Baalzebul. Right from the start, my luck was horrible. He managed three AC20 hits on my left leg and followed it up with an AC20 to the head that knocked off 78hp. I did managed to come close to overheating him, and even more amazingly get a headshot with a TB (Which only did 30 damage to him...), but he quickly shot my injured leg off and finished me off by taking my head, ala Hetz. It was quick and brutal, very nicely done. :)

Battled Lobsteve in assaults, my Daemon Lord (I don't like that titan much) vs. his Baalzebul.
The thing about this match was that we both played it so well. The terrain was unforgiving as we wound up facing each other with just forests and plains between (Classic terrain chosen by random). I managed a green scan on my 3rd try which was lucky, and I was reluctant to get in too close to those dual teslas. Of course there wasn't much choice as I needed to get my AC20s to optimum range as well. We neither had direct los so I contented myself with setting the woods he had to run through on fire with my ML. WOnderful. This gave me time to maneuver to some trees of my own and crouch down with my shield up. So when Taren set my woods on fire as he ran through his own flames I was relatively unconcerned....at least until he hit my shield with a Tesla and sent my heat up to 115 or something like that. Very nerve wracking to wait the ~30 seconds to run out of those woods. Twice my heat was almost down to 60 when he hit me with NMs.

My personal opinion is that the difference in this game was my Shield 4 vs. his Shield 2.

Lobsteve.

I totally agree. My TB percent to hit only rose above 40 when I was one hex from you.

Pulled off a nice win and got some revenge against Lobsteve. We dueled on the plains, my Baalzebul (poetic justice) against his Gargantua. We closed pretty quickly and I managed to get some good shots in and knock him over in burning woods. When he got up, he ran away, but a quick step in the right direction gave me several free shots at his back. After blasting it as much as I could, we were seperated by burning forests, and closed further, then spent a hundred or more seconds standing two hexes away from each other, bobbing up and down like feeding birds as one person crouched and the other stood. Occasionally, we would even take a shot or two at each other. Finally, an AC20 hit took out his LoT. I circled around and came up behind, disabling his RT and ending the game.

Dueled Titan Fodder in assaults, I got a Kodiak (2 AC7, 2 HMG, 1 AC20, 3 ML) and he got an Annihilator (5 GC, 2 PL). Things went pretty badly for Titan Fodder from the beginning. The terrain was totally in my favor - I was able to close with him before he could get off more than a few GC shots. Once up close, I had the advantage almost completely, and when he tried a charge to throw me off balance, it was he that fell. From there, I pounded him mercilessly, and my HMGs started doing system damage, starting with his left hip, which took medium damage. From there, he could barely stand again. He took an amazingly long time to die, though, even with called shots. I think I managed to damage practically every system in his titan, as well as taking out the CT, which still didn't stop him, before finally ripping off enough pieces to disable him.

Another duel with Titan Fodder in assaults. This time it was me with the Annihilator, and he got a Daemon Lord. I quickly apologized for his bad luck when I saw the titan. :) I got lucky early on, with a convenient mountain range nearby. From there, I lobbed gauss shot after shot at him before he was close enough to fire back. By the time he was close enough to start shooting, he was rather festively decorated in yellows and reds. He did set my woods on fire twice, and nailed my arm with a tesla, but the game was pretty much all mine. The end came with a spectacular bang - he was jumping toward me, I fired a gauss round that tore his head off, causing him to crash to the ground, which set off a 60 point NM explosion in his LT, which blew out the LT, his CT, and LA, causing his engine to explode as well, making it possibly my flashiest win ever.

Dueled Ducados in the polar wastelands on heavies. He got a Guardian (2 BRG, 2 LMG, 1 SRM8) and I got a Disruptor (2 AC12, 2 HMG). Things looked really good for me in the first half of the game, since I had the range on him. I got hit after hit, occasionally damaging a system here and there. Once he got in range, though, things turned around fast. A lucky LMG hit damaged my gyro, and since the titan has no DCS, I was in trouble against those BRGs. I still got in quite a few shots, had his CT, LT, RT and LL red, but he kept knocking me over. Finally I managed to rip his LL off, but it didn't help. I couldn't move far enough to get out of his line of fire since he knocked me over basically every time he hit me. Finally, one hex away from being out of his arc of fire, he shot my leg off. That did it for me, even though the game didn't end itself, I conceded. There was nothing left for me to hit him with.

Fought Titan Fodder in assaults. I got a Nemesis (2 AC20, 1 AC7, 1 NB, 1 PG) and he got a Deimos (Looked like 2 LL, 3 or 4 CLGs.) It was a very close game, since my pathetic shield 1 didn't do much to stop his fire, while my heavy artillery blasted big holes in armor quite often. The shield did save me a few times, though, but it was balanced by being totally unable to get a scan on him, while he had me green scanned early on. In the end, though, the Ac20s firepower won out, blowing away his LT, followed shortly thereafter by his RT, depriving him of all weapons other than his legs. When the game ended, I was red in the RL and LT, less than 20 internal left on each. I was getting worried. Very nice game.

duc vs taren

Post by Ducados »

Dueled Taren today, it was heavies on hell, he was on a Grizzly (2AC20;2 CS) and me on a guardian again (2LMG; 2BRG; 1SRM8) (i´m starting to like this combo).
This one was faster than last: I had to make a heroic run and a kamikaze jump over lava knowing that I was crashing at the end for lack of jp´s, but i had to get in range for brg and there was no other way. He set my LL red in this run, but a lucky shot from my LMG damaged his Heat Reg. I then could overpass him, and started hiting him with brg so he couldn´t even move. Once his leg was off he just ejected.
Again his lack of shield was my advantage.

taren & me vs Hetzer & AI

Post by Ducados »

We dueled Assaults on Polar (small map):
Hetz: Knockabout (2Pg´s; 2BRG´s)
AI: Auto da Fe (2pg´s; 2 PL)
Taren: Hoodhung (or something like that) (2AC20; 1AC12; 2LL)
Me: Cratermaker (3LR9; 2LR6; 2SR8)

The first one we saw was the Auto, so we concentrated on him, i stood back and taren got closer. It wasn´t hard to get him down but took enough time to let hetzer take position. And still being prone AI kept punishing Taren. As soon as the Knockabout appeared we locked on him and fired to death, but he resisted a lot, concentrating his fire on Taren (brg´s are your cross, man), who lost his RT.
But by that time Hetz couldn´t do nothing, even taking me down a couple of times.
I failed a check 99/95 and I got really furious. Taren told me it was hims, but I couldn´t contain myself and fired from the floor, my first shot disabled his LOT. After that Taren did a butcher work replacing Hetz´s members by smoke and cables.

It was a good fight, but we really need a fourth player instead of AI.
You guys correct me if I´m wrong

taren vs duc

Post by Ducados »

Again fought taren, heavies on hell, getting me a Bad Omen (brg;nb;pg) and him a Sagitta!!! (everybody knows him). I stopped a few missiles with my body and sat to wait him explode. After a while of ammo explotions he reached 256º but didn´t explode. So I had to help him with some called shots to his engine.
That titans HR really sucks.
Not a meritorious victory for sure

BTW, the Sagitta has a heat reduction of 2.3C/sec , and a heat reg occupation of 1.27C/sec when firing only the GMs, which leaves just enough room for Hell's environment heat mod. So you'll have to take it easy on that LL, but the Sagitta is a missile boat, not an energy titan. The LL has other uses other than being a main weapon, which is the role of the massive load of GMs. And in Hell you're better off not using the shield anyway.

The real problem was trying to move so I could stay away from him. If I'd been able to stand still and lob missiles, I could've managed, but as soon as I had to move, my heat stopped going down. And of course, the first time I had to try to avert an ammo explosion, I failed, and that was all for me. I never bothered to turn on the shield, that would've killed me even faster.

I like the sagitta but won't be happy getting it in hell. But I won't prefer duells in hell at all as the titan database is made for the classic landscapes.
