Corrections for Soviet Air HQ leaders

Post by Dreamslayer »

At start of the war there are some inaccuracies in the Soviet OOB in the game.

Long Range Air Command (in game data this HQ is under command of Zhigarev).
Correct leader for this Command is Leonid A. Gorbatsevich.

Baltic Fleet Air Command (Zabaluev).
Correct leader for this HQ is Vasily Ermachenkov (in game data Ermachenko).

Black See Fleet Air Command (Ostryakov).
Correct leader for this HQ is Victor A. Rusakov.

Moscow Air Command (Ustinov).
Correct leader for this HQ is Nikolai A. Sbytov.

Orel Air Command (Shakht).
Correct leader for this HQ is Nikolai F. Naumenko.

6 IAK PVO Air Command (Zhuravlev).
Correct leader for this HQ is Ivan D. Klimov.

I've tried to write more detailed text about it. But spam filter blocked my attempt and said me “You are not allowed to post links, emails or phone numbers for 7 days from the date of your tenth post.”.
idk why because there was no any links ,emails or phone numbers in my text.

My basic research (online, can't read Russian, so can't say it is 100% accurate) shows that on 21st June

Pavel Zhigarev - First Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Air Force, People's Commissariat of Defence

Gorbatsevich - Head of Bomber Directorate, Air Force Directorate

Zabaluev - Commanding Officer 44th Fighter Aviation Division

Ermachenkov - Commanding Officer Air Forces, Red Banner Baltic Fleet

Ostryakov - Deputy Commanding Officer Air Forces, Pacific Fleet (air commander of Black Sea Fleet in Oct 41)

Rusakov - Commanding Officer Air Forces, Black Sea Fleet

Ustinov - Air force Chief of Staff, 9th Army or Southern front

Sbytov - Commanding Officer Air Forces, Moscow Military District

Shakht - Arrested 31/5/41 and executed in 42 (up to his arrest was in charge at Orel; first name of Ernst not helpful)

Naumenko - Commanding Officer 2nd Aviation Division; is this Orel?

Zhuravlev - ????

Klimov - Commanding Officer 24th Fighter Aviation Division

As Dreamslayer is Russian and is using Russian resources I cannot see why we wouldn't go with his recommended changes.

Molotov : This we did not deserve.

Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.

Looks like I can't post my full answer again =)
so can't say it is 100% accurate
I guess noone can be 100% accurate about this war =)
Shakht - Arrested 31/5/41 and executed in 42 (up to his arrest was in charge at Orel; first name of Ernst not helpful)

In some sources his first name is Ernest. He was born in Basel,Switzerland ,nationality is German.

I used wiki (I know) as a cross reference but my primary source has been www.generals.dk

Zhigarev
From April 1941 he was Head of the Red Army's Main Department VVS (Glavnoye Upravleniye VVS RKKA). On 29 June he was appointed for command the Red Army's VVS.

Leonid A. Gorbatsevich
Head of Long Range Air Command from April 1941
Colonel (1939). 29 October 1941 he was promoted to GMA(General-Major Aviatsii).

Zabaluev
From March 1941 till February 1942 he was commander of the 44th Fighter Aviation Division (IAD) in the Kiev Special Military District(South-Western Front).

Vasily Ermachenkov
In October 1939 he was appointed commander of Baltic Fleet Air Command.

Ostryakov
He took command of Black See Fleet Air Command only in 4 November 1941.

Victor A. Rusakov
June 1938 he was appointed commander of Black See Fleet Air Command. GMA(4 June 1940).

Ustinov
I`ve found only one Ustinov in the Air HQ. A.Z.Ustinov(General-Major Aviatsii) - Chief of the Staff of VVS of the Odessa M.D..

Nikolai A. Sbytov

In May 1941 he was appointed commander of Moscow Air Command. Colonel.

Shakht
On November 1940 he is Deputy of Commanding Officer of Orel Air Command.
30 May 1941 arrested . On 23 February 1942 he and his wife was executed.

Nikolai F. Naumenko
Commanding Officer of 2nd SAD from summer 1940. On may 1941 he is commander of Orel Air Command. In this role he was untill Jule,1941. In Jule 1941 he is Deputy of commander(second-in-command ?)of Western Air Command.
Colonel. On 29 October he was promoted to General-Major Aviatsii.

Zhuravlev
On May 1941 he was commander of 1st PVO corps(part of the Moscow PVO Zone). This corps operated with AA guns, barrage ballons etc. Zhuravlev was General of Artillery not Aviation.

Ivan D. Klimov
This is more difficult task for research. Because some documents about forming PVO Defense still stays unpublished and under security label. One of them is Order № 0041 (19 June,1941) of People's Commissariat of Defence “Reorganization of PVO's Aviation Defense of Moscow, Leningrad ,Baku”.
6 IAK PVO Air Command was formed on 20 June,1941 by merging of 24th IAD and 78th IAD.
About commander of this unit. There are two dates in different sources when Klimov was appointed for this HQ – 20 June and 4 Jule. Before it he was Commanding Officer of 24th IAD from December 1940.
On 28 October ,1941 Klimov was promoted to General-Major Aviatsii.
Anyway current leader Zhuravlev cant be commander of 6 IAK PVO Air Command because he was artillerist officer.
