Map scrolling

Post by Meteor2 »

To scroll the map east/west I move the mouse to the right/left screen border.
This does not working in north/south direction.

I have to try to find the small red markers here and that doesn`t work well.
Why is this different? I would like to have it N/S as it works in E/W direction.

Yes, scrolling southward is troublesome for me also. Something for the next patch I guess.
Until then, we might have to get used to scrolling with the keyboard arrows.

Mouse scrolling of the map is definitely troublesome. I know some (most?) people prefer this, but I find it horrible so I avoid it and instead mapped WASD to map movement.
It's just not practical on systems with for instance dual monitors, and the task-bar and menu/title bar interferes with movement. It's a remnant of the full-screen-exclusive games of the 90s.

Anyway, I did a search and came up with the following:

http://www.snakebytestudios.com/project ... rsor-lock/
Pretty good small tool, can lock the cursor to the window "interior" so you can just move the mouse to the edge of the screen and scroll. OK UI but didn't have a tray icon so hard to close after use. Also supports a configurable hotkey to toggle locking.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/dualmonitortool/
Can lock the cursor to the window using a hotkey, but not the interior, so for scrolling North the Menu bar interferes unfortunately. But if you use dual monitors you might want to test this tool anyway, it's got some nice features.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/38808 ... ss_Gaming/
https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming
Features lock to the window interior, toggling with hotkey, as well as other features like making the game fullscreen borderless, i.e. to remove the Title Bar.
Not as customizable as the others, but I like this the best as I already use it for borderless gaming [:)] Costs a bit of money on Steam but the version on Github is free.

Windows Mouse Capture - originally made for WarcraftIII, really simple, works perfectly fine. For simplicity probably the best, no options other than to set hotkey.

The problem stems from the game working in a windowed mode.

We need a full screen option and then there won't be any problems.

Well we do have a full-screen option, for now only accessible in the ini file. However it is not true full-screen so the same problems with scrolling. There's also the Menu bar there.

I think one problem with scrolling south is that the infobar (actually all dialogs) have borders extending past the visible parts so that shadows can be drawn. I plan to move it up a bit so that scrolling south should work better.

If you re-size your game screen (drag it) so that it doesn't conflict with the taskbar (in Win 10, at any rate) then the little red scroll arrow for south then works fine. The arrow keys are easier still, though.

There is an associated problem and that is the tiny mini-map and it's placement on the left side of the screen.

Most of the time I just scroll to fine tune what I am looking at and use the mini-map to move to other off screen locations.

Haven't had much time to mess with the game, but so far, there appears to be a number of issues I'm having problems with. I need to sit down with the manual and have a good read. I'm off on vacation and hopefully will be able to do some in depth analysis.

I turn off the info bar and scrolling is no longer an issue.

Forget mouse scroll, you got better things to do with that mouse.
Use the arrow keys, scrolling is better with them compared to mouse scroll.

I noticed that the computer does not remember my selections of info panels. Every time I load a new game I have to reset them.
Is it possible to save these selections?

Just realize that by doing that the tool tip no longer appears, nor the "mini" tool tip that shows when putting the cursor over a panel/button.

I plan to add saving the positions at some time in the future, but I want to make sure it's bulletproof first and that people can easily get back to a good state.

Scrolling should be a lot better after the upcoming patch.

Yeah right now I prefer that it doesn`t save the positions, because when I move the mini map I can`t get it back to its original position [:D]

Could you please also move the control panels on the right a little bit leftwards so that scrolling eastwards will also become easier.

I'm not having any problems scrolling east, I just move the cursor to the edge of the screen without any care and scroll perfectly, works just like to the other side.
