Why no recon units in the Midway scenario?

Post by spinecruncher »

Seems like that renders the scenario with a major flaw. How is the Allied player supposed to proceed with any sense of historical accuracy? History aside, how would allies locate the Japanese fleet?

And another thing, completely unrelated but in this scenario I pressed the space key once and I know that removes the units icons from the board; but I cannot get the unit icons back on. Is there another way the unit icons on the board go on /off other than space key? Thank you

Try the I key.
Regarding your first question, sorry, not familiar with that scenario. Check the scenario doc (if there is one) just in case.

Yeah I can find the units again but I do not understand why no recon in the OOB.

There are two Midway scenarios. Which one are you talking about?

I am talking about the one with no recon units.... It is called Midway but my game is open right now (another scenario) so I am not sure beyond that.

If you're talking about "Midway 1942", that scenario starts out with the US Carriers' air units set to "A" or "T" deployments. Those deployments automatically do Sea Reconnaissance. The Jap Task Force starts out revealed.

okay so no recon? Kind of odd given the role recon played in that real life battle.

Recon is being done by the carrier air units - due to their deployment modes.

Edit: See 19.7.2 in the manual.

I believe, the new Midway scenario - MIdway 42 - starts out, as Curtis Lemay said - with the IJN carriers already located and their position known, so you don't need recon for that. It starts after the IJN attack on Midway island.

All scenarios have fog-of-war if the player turns it on.

In my "Midway 1942" scenario (I don't know about Operation MI), the Jap Task Force is revealed by the US carrier air units. They do sea recon, revealing the Jap Task Force.

Space bar should toggle the unit visibility on and off.
