Elmer question
Novice questions:
Having fun with Elmer now. It's great - can save a lot of manual clicking. I've read the Elmer primer and various other things. As Tamas said, it really is 'pretty simple' when you start to get the hang of it. But 3 questions, if anyone can help:
1. Does Elmer plan attacks? I mess around a bit with objectives, hit Shift-F12 and he moves all my formations, but then how do I find out if he has planned any attacks, before I hit the resolve button? I have yet to see an attack go in after letting Elmer move and hitting the resolve button.
2. Connected question: Is there a way to review (and make changes to) planned attacks (including those planned by Elmer, if they exist)?
3. Is there a way to put in waypoints on the way to objectives? Or, even, drag objectives to another location (without deleting and redoing)?
Many thanks.

RE: Elmer question
1.) When you have executed the PO formation move hitting 'P' should always show you how many battles are planned, by you and commander Elmer.
2.) You still can review all planned combat and adjust them accordingly before you hit the (E)execute turn button.
3.) You can use the objective path to use steps between the objectives as waypoints; no need to give them waypoints a victory value. Without a victory value they shouldn't appear as objectives within the game.

RE: Elmer question
Thanks Oberst Klink. All clear except 3. Not sure how I set a waypoint. I right click to set an objective, but a waypoint? And when you speak of victory values, do you mean in the editor? Because I'm just talking about using Elmer in game. I meant - is there a way to set waypoints in game, using Elmer, not in the editor? Thanks again.

RE: Elmer question
Yes you can...
See screenshot
You have to make sure to turn the option Show PO Assist Button on.
In the game, select your formation and switch on the PO(AI) view (The button with the little E in the bottom right corner). Now, you can right click to show the options of deleting, inserting and of course adding waypoints.

RE: Elmer question
Thanks. But when I use that dialogue it only adds an objective, not a waypoint?

RE: Elmer question
Well, yes, they are not shown as waypoints, BUT... they act like waypoints to channel the movement; It actually works fine (never tried/used it before); So far; one can change/adjust the path of movement as well as the stance of the formation without bothering to move all little bits oneself.ORIGINAL: Phoenix100

RE: Elmer question
Ah! I understand. Thanks for the help, OB.Kl. Much appreciated. I will mess around a bit, in your 'Tutorial 43' and others. It's true that Elmer is a great click-saver.

Is Tutorial 43 Kasserine 43?

RE: Elmer question
How do I set formation order to fixed, cant seem to find it.
from the elmer Doc.
Note – if you manually move/change status of units, the AI-assisted mode will take over the
formation in PO mode and possibly move the units again or change unit modes unless you change/set
the Formation Order to Fixed(Manual Mode).
and from the manual
Press F to change the formation orders. Set
formations you want to control yourself to
“Manual”.
Where is the manual setting???

RE: Elmer question
For others
you have to hit "F" then click on formation OOB button in the row of buttons at the bottom of the window, next to the check mark. That opens a window where the boxes to check for manual/PO control are.
I'm pretty sure i remember Mr. Cross covering this in the UI guide...duh..yup..should of checked there first [:)]

RE: Elmer question
Couple of Elmer assist questions.
When you show PO tracks on a unit, whats the red line/arrow point to? where the unit draws supplies?
Is there a way to control one unit in a formation? or is it all or none?

RE: Elmer question
The red line points towards the 'current objective' for that formation. That's determined by force location and stance.
It's all or none.

RE: Elmer question
Do you guys suggest this thread for the most comprehensive look at PO use?

RE: Elmer question
You sure the red line points to the current objective, ralphtrick? It seems to point back to the 'parent' HQ, which will often be behind the highlighted unit, wheras the white objective pathway leading to, firstly, 'obj 1' is usually up ahead. The red line doesn't point to anything marked 'obj 1'. I too had thought it was either supply or simply parent unit.

RE: Elmer question
OK, we're both wrong. It's actually pointing back to Objective 0 which makes more sense when you're designing paths. It may make more sense for me to point to the lowest enemy held objective when playing.
