The use of Air units,

Post by spinecruncher »

Seems that the manual discourages the traditional use of air units as ineffective, IE, like taking an air unit and striking another unit. Mostly therefore I have just been assigning interdiction roles. For example, I am currently playing N Korea. I have found that assigning interdiction although easy to do, is not so satisfying in the gaming sense as using air units as strike forces.

Any thoughts, contrasts on the use of air units in this game to give more flavour?

Edit: I have mainly had the air units on combat support. The manual seems to convey that direct strike is not effective. But that does not explain the Falaise pocket.

The PRNK air-units are useless; wait until you get the PRC Mig-15; but their role should be just AS; as UN; The B-29 for ground support, fighters to AS and fighter-bombers and medium-bombers to interdiction. Oh, also try out to bomb bridges in the hinterland; the best way to cut supply lines :D

Air units on ground support tend to degrade rather quickly compared to interdiction. With the new limiting of air unit ranges you could possibly use them more effectively in a defensive ground support role since you can limit where they support yet cover a fair part of a defensive line.
